Look up the definition of war. Weapon of war doesn't mean used weapon used by the military. You are gross.

war ‎(plural wars)

Organized, large-scale, armed conflict between countries or between national, ethnic, or other sizeable groups, usually involving the engagement of military forces.

The war was largely between Sunni and Shia militants.‎

Okay? Not sure how it's a weapon of war. An estimated 5,000,000 AR-15 type rifles owned in America... and how many of those civilian-held weapons are used to kill people? 0.01%?

Large group ISIS used that weapon in two separate attacks. You're vomit.

ISIS uses whatever weapons they can get their hands on. However, ISIS doesn't use AR-15s, ISIS uses M16s that they captured from the Iraqi army.

AR-15: civilian version, single shots.
M16: army version, automatic bursts.

"It is noteworthy that the use of American rifles by Islamic State fighters is rare and is only seen in Iraq," Flashpoint said in a research note, using another name for the militant group. "These rifles were likely left by U.S. forces or seized from Iraqi soldiers."

Edit: and quit being so insulting, I didn't report your posts, but it's still rude.

I don't know why you are trying so hard. Get a grip already. It's getting embarrassing. ISIS has used AR-15 in two attacks and killed over 60+ Americans. They are weapons of war. The more of these lone wolf attacks that happen or the ones that are thwarted will always uncover AR-15's. #WeaponsOfWar

Oh, I see what you mean. Just because an ISIS person uses something doesn't mean it's a "weapon of war". You will always fail to prove these guns, specifically, are "weapons of war". If an AR-15 is a weapon of war, what about a bolt-action hunting rifle? Bolt-action was designed specifically for war, to shoot more rounds, faster. Either they are both "weapons of war", or neither is.

An AR-15 and an M-16 is the same exact gun the only difference is one fully automatic and one is semi automatic.

an M16 can do up to 950 rounds per minute .

the AR-15 speed depends upon how fast the shooter can pull the trigger, but they can generally shoot 700 rounds per minute.

A round is a bullet. That's 700 bullets per minute.

The AR-15 was first built in 1959 by ArmaLite as a small arms rifle for the United States armed forces.

It's a weapon of war.

AR-15 can't shoot 700 rounds in a minute. Let's prove this: let's say a person shoots 6 rounds per second and takes 3 seconds to reload. These are not slow times. Magazine is emptied in 5 seconds.

5+3+5+3+5+3+5+3+5+3+5+3+5+3+4 = 60
That makes 234 rounds per minute. Real life situations: slower.

Now the M16, let's say 800 rounds per minute, magazine emptied in 2.25 seconds, same reload time.

2.25+3+2.25+3+2.25+3+2.25+3+2.25+3+2.25+3+2.25+3+2.25+3+2.25+3+2.25+3+2.25+3+2.25 = 60
That makes 360 rounds per minute, 54% faster.

The original design was fully automatic. Semi-automatic AR-15s are not "weapons of war". They have similar designs to "weapons of war"... like pretty much every gun ever. Just because it's very dangerous in the wrong hands doesn't make it a "weapon of war".

I see you didn't reply to my point.

This was designed for the military, to kill people:11004171_1.jpg?v=8CE27EFE311A4F0

This was designed for hunting deer, but it looks similar and has the same capabilities. Does that make the deer rifle a "weapon of war"?

So shooting 234 rounds (bullets) per minute is safe for civilian use. Not a weapon of war.

Shooting 360 rounds (bullets) per minute is unsafe for civilians and is a weapon of war.

Got it now. That was confusing.

Wait what does this have to do with keeping people safe?

Whether or not it's a "weapon of war" has nothing to do with how "dangerous" it is. It's just a silly, incorrect term I don't like hearing.

Ok, I respect that.

And I'm sorry for the name calling. With everything that I have been seeing on the news I am quite literally an emotional wreck.

It's a weapon of war because its only purpose is to kill as many people as possible in a short time.

Automatic rifles ARE military-grade weapons (weapons of war) and there is no way you can deny that. They aren't used for hunting and they're beyond overkill for self-defense.

Let me address this one by one :rip:

"its only purpose is to kill as many people as possible in a short time"
Untrue. These rifles number in the millions and like any other civilian firearm, the vast majority have never been used for violence. Unlike certain specialized defensive weapons, these rifles cover a great number of uses, from hunting to competitive shooting, which is a major reason why they are so popular.

"Automatic rifles ARE military-grade weapons"
This was not an automatic rifle, those have been banned since 1986. This was a semi-automatic rifle produced for the civilian market.

"They aren't used for hunting"
Wrong. They are frequently used for hunting, and these "modern sporting rifles" are especially useful for pests such as feral hogs, prairie dogs, and coyotes.

"they're beyond overkill for self-defense."
Not true. Using a semi-automatic rifle for self-defense does not mean blasting off an entire 30 round magazine. They are perfectly suited to self-defense, in particular home defense situations. They are more controllable and accurate than a handgun or shotgun, the lightweight bullets penetrate less walls, and compared to a handgun they have greater capability to stop an attacker. These rifles hold more rounds than a shotgun, have less recoil and don't require a manual operation between each shot. These factors make them useful for anyone, but in especially so for small-framed, inexperienced or recoil-sensitive individuals.
