I agree with everyone in this thread discussing their motives. This might be the most entertaining debate so far. 

It will probably be more entertaining than Trump vs Hillary tbh...

Oh man, I really can't believe the way Trump has been able to manipulate people in this election. First "accidentally" e-mailing his attack plans to a major political news site today and now this.

Think about it: Trump has ZERO interest in attacking Sanders because 1. Sanders has almost 0% chance of being the nominee and thus is not a threat to Trump in any way and 2. Trump is actively trying to recruit Bernie supporters to his side for the general, going nuclear on Bernie in a debate hurts his chances of doing that 

Since this debate will be on Fox News, the debate will be full of questions about Hillary, about Sanders' claim that the election has been rigged for Hillary (which Trump, of course, agrees with), the e-mail scandal etc. and Sanders has every interest in attacking her. I guarantee that if this debate happens, a sizable chunk of this debate will be Trump and Sanders attacking Hillary together. That's a general election attack ad for Trump in and of itself.

I understand why Bernie is doing this, his campaign is short on cash, the donations have slowed and he can't afford to do the kind of large-scale spending in California that he was able to do in previous big primaries. This is an opportunity for him to get some free press and to try to present himself as the strongest person to beat Trump. But I think the end result is just going to help Trump's chances in November.

fox news moderators will kill bernie. its going to be a hillary hate fest  . bernie can try to speak some sense while in this debate but trump will be speaking complete nonsense and he'll win doing it too.

Trump just announced at a press conference that he was serious about debate, but that to do it $10-$15 million would have to be given to women's charities.

Maybe the exposure will help Sanders, thus hurting Hillary. And maybe Trump and Bernie will both get the opportunity to make attacks or criticisms on the Hildebeest. I'm sure Trump will speak his thoughts on why she declined to participate.
