I'm a fan of Sam's, and the OP is way off on his accusations and information. My guess is that Sam found that he enjoyed being away from the general toxicity that social media was injecting into his daily life and decided to stay away from it for a while longer. You're completely right in that he probably didn't leave due to Gaga fans being obnoxious. But here's proof that my OP wasn't way off. Gaga fans were bitter as hell. This was posted right after he won (before the messy statements). The golden globes are always biased for big names and they aren't as respected as the big 4. What was your favorite part? Personally I thought Gaga's acting was pretty equal. The golden globes are similar to the Grammys where the bigger name wins the award.
