Economy 52,889
http://marketrealist.com/2015/09/capacity-factors-continue-indicate-shift-coal-natural-gas/ In a shift to shut down Coal power plants (Coal is the most toxic of the fossil fuels), aboundant cheap Natural Gas which is the cleanest of the fossil fuels is being used to replace Coal power plants For the first time ever, in 2015 more electricity was produced with Natural Gas than Coal! Not only in the US, much of the world is relying more and more on natural gas for heating, electric demand and in some cases even transportation Some have called Natural Gas the "Fuel of the 21st Century" which will work as the supplement to renewables Additionally the US has extended its 30% tax rebate on Solar Panels and wind mills by 5 years to encourage more investment in renewables! VenusBlackStar 1,301
YAAAAASSSS When you hear about things like this that show evidence of making things cleaner and more efficient and less damaging to the environment it makes a lot of people against all this kind of work really dumb because regardless of whether or not y'all believe in climate change or not there's a ton of sh!t that can be cleaned up to better preserve the world. Mast 980
Great news, but we also need to start growing away from natural gases. Natural gases, although to a lesser extent than coal, release Methane and Carbon Dioxide, both of which are greenhouse gases. Not to mention that natural gas leaks, which are relatively common, have been studied, and it has been argued that the rate at which the gas escapes during extraction can be enough to loose its environmental advantage over coal. Agreed. Natural Gas is not 100% clean But our renewable alternatives still arent cost effective enough or reliable enough to rely on 100% We all want a cleaner world but also have to be realistic. The change to renewables will be slow and gradual, we cant get rid of fossil fuels from one day to the next so if were gonna burn some for now, might as well be the cleanest one. And Natural Gas is not as bad as Crude Oil or Coal so why not use it as our supplement?
