The late, great Whitney Houston will return to the stage to perform her greatest hits next year - with a little help from Hologram USA.

The announcement, which was made on Friday (September 11), sees Hologram USA CEO Alki David and President of the Whitney Houston Estate Pat Houston reveal their intention to bring back the singer to her worldwide audience using the holographic technology.

The interactive show will premiere at a US venue before touring the world, and David's FilmOn Studios will be on hand to create new content and syndicate it to all major digital outlets, including satellite and cable.

"I was heartbroken when Whitney passed away in 2012," said David in a statement. "The opportunity to help share her spectacular gifts with the world again is exactly what I hoped for when I built the hologram business.

"We've got technology that's causing a seismic shift in the entertainment industry, and a wonderful partnership with Pat Houston and the estate - I'm confident we'll create the ultimate celebration of Whitney's amazing artistry."

Houston's sister-in-law, and president of the singer's estate, Pat also added: "It's a great opportunity for her fans to see a reinvention of one the most celebrated female artists in history and to continue a legacy of performances that will not be forgotten in years to come. I look forward to the partnership."

The show will feature some of Houston's greatest hits, and the singer's hologram will also be joined by as-yet-unannounced special guests.

Earlier this year, Houston's family slammed a Lifetime biopic centred on the singer, telling fans to "brace themselves for the worst".

I'm iffy about this type of thing. I feel like these people are just looking to make money off the image of someone who is dead but at the same time I think it's really cool that this is able to be made. I wish they would just leave dead artists alone.

Jesse Pinkman

This reminds me of what they did with MJ. It was so uncomfortable seeing them using his hologram at award shows and tours. It just didn't feel right. Maybe once or twice is okay, but they need to let these people rest in peace.

It's science, bitch
