StrawberryBlond 14,195
Ok, I'm done talking here. I'm not going to bother discussing my opinions if people won't even be open to them or are determined to paint me as something I'm not. If anything, it's Beyonce who has a narrow view of feminism, not me. I believed in the whole "grrrl power" thing once before, then slowly realised it was all a lie and was more of a hindrance than a help. Maybe, with time, Beyonce will see this, if she ever steps outwith her very limited knowledge of feminism. Until then, she's no different from other female singers who think that selling s-x equals feminism, which is ironic, as this theory works in mens interests. Beyonce's race and status as a woman is not part of the reason why I criticise her. I criticise her because I find problems with her brand of feminism. And because I have issues with her music and personality in general. But I am not jealous or pressed or whatever. More like a frustrated music critic. With Beyonce, her fans tend to be of the opinion that no one should dislike her and like to think of her as immune to criticism. Well, I aim to dispel that notion as I belive no artist should have God-like status. I will continue to critique Beyonce in the future and if you're going to argue back, at least get a few things about me right. Ignorant about urban music? Typical white privelaged feminist? Fascinating how people seem to know me after speaking to me once. But maybe one thing you did get right is that this b***h ain't bowing down to anyone, especially rich singers who would be broke if it weren't for the public spending their hard earned money on them. You're not open to our opinions and you are always painting Beyoncé as something she's not.

Bebe 16,935
"Until then, she's no different from other female singers who think that selling s-x equals feminism, which is ironic, as this theory works in mens interests." "I criticise her because I find problems with her brand of feminism. And because I have issues with her music and personality in general." "With Beyonce, her fans tend to be of the opinion that no one should dislike her and like to think of her as immune to criticism." "Ignorant about urban music? Typical white privelaged feminist? Fascinating how people seem to know me after speaking to me once." like no wonder Maybe you sound 'ignorant about urban music' and like a 'Typical white privileged feminist' because of all of the quotes above “White feminists tend to critique Beyoncé first and foremost for the way she uses her s-xuality as a tool. White feminists also tend to criticize her attitude towards wealth and materialism, along with her bravado and confidence, while there is certainly room for criticism, and major figures like Beyoncé should be criticized, these particular conversations tend to approach any a--lysis from a very white point of view, and don’t consider how the themes of s-xuality, wealth, and confidence differ across communities.†But yeah girl, keep ignoring the praise and support this is getting, not only from friggen Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie but from the black feminist blogs. Keep ignoring and trying to invalidate their thoughts, keep applying your narrow and rigid view of feminism onto completely different communities and cultures. #SolidarityIsForWhiteWomen You have shown your ignorance towards hip-hop culture throughout this thread and have also repeatedly shown that you don't care about the feminist issues of women of colour and how cultural differences mean they are affected by patriarchy and oppressed in different ways. Your basic, elementary and s-xist references to female artists "selling s-x" and your association between grrl power and what Beyonce is doing shows your limited frame of reference and limited knowledge of feminism. I can recommend some great books from some of my favourite modern writers if you want to brush up on your reading and understanding of modern feminism. Collins, Patricia Hill. Black Feminist Thought: Knowledge, Consciousness, and the Politics of Empowerment. Collins, Patricia Hill. Black Sexual Politics: African Americans, Gender, and the New Racism hooks, bell. Ain’t I a Woman: Black Women and Feminism. hooks, bell. Feminism Is For Everybody : Passionate Politics, hooks, bell. Feminist Theory: From Margin to Center. (bell hooks is a fantastic writer) Morgan, Joan. When Chickenheads Come Home to Roost: A Hip-Hop Feminist Breaks it Down.
Sister 9,907
I agree with You, StrawberryBlond, but I think that Beyoncé is just superficial and doesn't really stand for anything. I don't think that there is much thought put into any of it beyond attention and her ego. The future's uncertain and the end is always near.
