Oh my god she just wrecked Gaga, Katy, and Britney in one fell slap. No stupid year-long hype needed. No Drama. No overly-conceited campaigns. Just pure commitment and passion. THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT. ALL HAIL QUEEEEN B!

What do you mean no stupid year long hype? She may not have been talking about the album, but her super bowl performance and commercials and tours and putting out song snippets have all been hype and a part of the campaign to keep Beyonce in the public eye. She just went about in a different way than the other pop girls

Probably because it's just as risky as it is smart. I mean, it's a great idea, but without the year long hype of a Beyonce album, who is to say that a surprise release wouldn't have gone unnoticed? If Ke$ha, for example, released an album without a word today instead of Beyonce, would it have had the same impact?

This. I wonder why no one thought of this before?

David Bowie's new single was released with no warning whatsoever, and he had been on a super long hiatus right before. His album release date was planned, but the single caught everyone off guard.

I could have sworn Jay-Z and Kanye put 'Watch The Throne' out online the friday before the initial tuesday physical release to prevent it. But either way, it's a great idea. :flutter:

Hmm, it's interesting that she's going so hard against "preventing leaks" when the industry seems to be embracing them by doing early album streaming. I mean, its not like we're NOT going to see illegal download links of this album everywhere within a few hours of its release, and the early album streams haven't done anything to stop some albums from pulling huge numbers (Eminem comes to mind). It sort of reminds me of major labels being very diligent in removing user-uploaded music videos in the earlier days of YouTube until they actually realized that YouTube was helping them more than it was hurting them and they learned to embrace it.

Also interesting that she's splitting up the album's digital and retail sales releases. This is definitely a risky move, but it will be interesting to see how it pans out.

So true :legend: probably my second fave song other than Mine. The video and song Mine is just flawless

What is everyone's fave song/video from the album?

I find the video for Blue very pretty tbh.

But I still need time to watch them all!

Great surprise!!

But will there be a single?

Just look at the videos and their visual connections to the emotions evoked from the sounds of her music. It's everything that we wanted from ARTPOP

I have to agree with you. No matter what the others say ARTPOP so far is a typical pop album. The way Beyonce has been released with all videos and no hype goes against typical pop. Maybe it's not as artistic but going from the visuals alone I'm betting it's artsy.
