I will never understand why people care for such stuff. Gaga already felt like she made it when she was doing her performances with Lady Starlight in the underground scene. It doesn't matter if she's popular or not as long as she can do whatever she loves.

What's interesting to me that nobody outside of pop forums (and maybe high school) give a damn about chart performance or sales. When I talk to people about music, either currently or 5-10 years ago, NO ONE says "oh yeah, that song went number 2 for three weeks on the charts" or "that's off his/her number one album". All they talk about is the music, and possibly the video and artist themselves. It's just weird to me this obsession. There's some really crappy music and artists that constantly make top ten, so no one I know (outside of places like GGD) bothers looking at the charts.

Just repeat to yourself, "It's just a show. I should really just relax."

I agree, I think so too!

Because the less she performs well commercailly the smaller the exeprience she creates gets.

But Gaga's fine.

The whole "Stan" culture obsession with comparing artists based on charts, sales, twitter numbers, tour numbers, "relevance", etc, is just bizarre.  It seems like most people grow out of the need to validate their own self image with where a particular pop star sits in some imaginary "hierarchy.".

So basically you get Stans on one side that argue about how their favorite is the most popular pop star on the planet, and Hipsters on the other who feel better if nobody but them listens to a particular artist, LOL.

There is absolutely no point to worry about things that you personally can't influence. Just enjoy the music.

Well said!

McDonald's is probably the #1 eatery in America, but would you consider it gormet? Wal-Mart probably sells more shoes than Madden, would you consider it couture? It's not necessarily bad because it's number one, but when you look at all the factors involved, it's also not necessarily better (in fact, it can often be crap).

I mean, I can definitely see where your fave being at the top in sales/charts/whatever is exciting in the same way having the home team win the big game is exciting, but it doesn't really matter in the long run, or even then. Like I said, a lot of the "big charters" I see I think makes crappy to mediocre music and follows the same predictible, tiring trends, etc. It's not like I'm trying to cast shade (other than in my opinion their work isn't great or memorable), because I see no problems in sticking with the tried-and-true to get that bling (if it's what they truly want), but I won't ever see them as an artist and I doubt many will (and that's not necessarily a bad thing, not everyone that does music needs to be reflective and deep or innovative). But they are not on Gaga's level, so why should she see them as competition.

And if Gaga wanted to make chart toppers like Telephone and Just Dance, that's cool too, but she can make anything she wants which is why I hope she continues to branch out (even if only for a little bit) just because she has the talent to actually accomplish so much of what other artists can't. And whether it does well commercially or with the general public, shouldn't influence anyone's love (or hate) of what she produces.

Just repeat to yourself, "It's just a show. I should really just relax."

Hipsters are just selfish and Stans are just insecure.

I believe Gaga's real peak is still to come and people better work for it, buy her records, buy everything. If you want Gaga to succeed, support your artist and stop complaining, that's it basically.
