Gaga on Music industry (from 2014 Howard stern interview)

She was excited for the fans to hear ARTPOP as much as the fans were excited to here it. You can't hold performing new songs at iTunes festival against her when she just wanted the fans to be hyped. I personally was still surprised when the album was released. The leaks etc, were obviously not in her control (except for Aura which was because her label wouldn't let her release that as the lead single and she's a rebel). Nothing that happened during the release of ARTPOP has anything to do with her dislike of streaming.

Born this Way was reducing the price wasn't even decision, again, it was her label. Over 600,000 copies were bought at regular price anyway which to me sounds better than streaming for free so http://gagadaily.com/uploads/default_awkney2.gif and again, has nothing to do with streaming.

Gaga is a genius when it comes to the music industry. Re-watch her SXSW interview, it explains everything about how she feels controlled and wants to regain power over her decision making.

We're not talking about her label's decision, we're talking about her saying that music should be for free. SHE said that herself. And I`m not talking only about the iTunes Festival. By the time ARTPOP got released the only songs we haven't listened were Fashion, Donatella and Gypsy. The rest was performed at the iTunes Festival, leaked by her in full or through snippets and released on iTunes as promo singles.

I`ve watched that interview a dozen times and I`m sorry she could never regain power `cause she never had it in the first place.

Can you please link me the interview where she says that? I'm genuinely curious. I haven't seen her talking about music that should be free. I'v only ever heard her talk about how sh** the music industry is because music is free. Girl needs to pay bills so :ohwell:

I can't find the interview she gave right after Born This Way was released where she said all music should be free (I think it was a video) but I found an article before Born This Way where she says she doesn't mind if her music is downloaded for free, that it actually helped her career a lot.

Also, let's not forget ARTPOP was available for free streaming via the ARTPOP app.

Streaming has grown exponentially since this article was written making it bit dated to claim that her views on "free" are the same. Opinions can change especially in the space of three years in the industry where so much negativity on sales has been thrown at her ("ARTFLOP").

ARTPOP's music was only available through the app if you validate your purchase of the album (via physical CD or digital download. It was also available for purchase through the app) so lets not forget ARTPOP wasn't available for free streaming via the app.
