Next step: Classical piano Gaga?

It's hard to top the Oscars performance. I think Gaga can slay if she blows everyone away with an amazing classical piano performance. Her piano playing has been so low key. She only plays chords to sing acoustic to, but imagine if she whips out a masterpiece and delivers a hardcore piano solo...That would be the next step in topping the media again and shutting everyone up.

Can she do it?

If that means no singing, then no.

I want some 2009 vmas, BR/Alejandro @ american idol teas tbh.

I would be here for a piano based album. Mixing songs like this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5tbGB8OdTrE

with songs like this:

It would be a perfect time for an MTV: Unplugged special. Showing of her skill as a classically trained pianist and vocalist.

I could see that being her next big evolution. She could pull it off tomorrow or sometime in her 30's/40's.
For now I think she is really trying to prove herself as a vocalist without a need for over the top fashion. It's working for her now, but I definitely see a piano based album in the future.

Yeah, I don't think we're going to be getting an all too familiar Gaga. What I'm afraid of is that she's going to take herself far too serious and stray from her pop roots. I'm not expecting a rehash of The Fame or Fame Monster but something as fresh as those two would be nice. Wouldn't it be awesome if she popularized a genre again like she did with dance music!? If anyone can do it, Gaga can.

I'm not sure she could pull it off though - sure, she's a classically trained pianist, and she can probably play classical well, but being a concert pianist is an art form of its own, and it takes a whole lot of training/rehearsing, and I don't really see how she could work on that with her crazy pop star schedule...

But I'd really love seeing her go back to some more elaborate playing, and if she works on it, I'm sure she could give us some Elton John kind of improvisations ^^

Indeed indeed :) Gaga may have had some piano lessons and so on and HAS really good piano skills for a pop star, but my god no... Don't think that she actually is a classically trained (concert pianist)! Her technique etc. faaaaar faaaar faaaar away from that. And classical playing isn't something you can magicallly learn (even with huge amout of time and practise) if you haven't done it pretty much since you were a child.... So the answer to your question is absolutely no :) Any other answer is pure delusion. However the idea of that piano based album sounds cool!

I'd love to se her really make some Elton style piano based songs. Unfortunately her best piano playing as "Lady Gaga" was during TF era.

how can you be so sure about it? had you been present at every piano lesson she's been taking since her childhood or what?  :awkney:

from what I've read and seen, she actually is a clasically trained pianist.

before the Oscars, I never knew Gaga could hit those notes. if someone told me she could sing like that before Oscars, I would probably not believe it.

right now it doesn't seem likely that Gaga could suprise us playing piano in a similar way she surpised us with her singing, but who knows, this woman is full of surprises.

so you never know for sure, especially when it's about Lady Gaga.

Having a classical piano background doesn't mean you are a good concert pianist. Concert pianists train and rehearse for several hours every day, with an athletic kind of discipline. Gaga is a great musician, and with enough work she could definitely impress us with her piano skills (I'm pretty sure we haven't seen half of what she's capable of at the piano), but that doesn't mean she could be a great classical pianist (at least not without giving up the pop star lifestyle)

Her vocals on the Oscars were impressive, and showed her dedication and hard work, but as good as those vocals were, she's not going to be able to perform The Queen of the Night from The Magic Flute by Mozart anytime soon, because she isn't a lyrical singer, she's a pop singer.

It all might sound a little elitist, but the classical repertoire requires a kind of technical discipline which has more to do with sport than with creativity, and as much as I love Gaga, she probably doesn't have what it takes to be the next Vladimir Horowitz...

Everything on this! thank you nd-loves-colors! :)

And how do I know? Because I can see and hear and tell you right away she doesn't have the required technique, no where near. And I don't have to sit on every piano lesson of hers to know that :)

And yes I like Madonna too, but what does that have to do with anything? I'm actually a concert pianist so I take any ideas like this OP almost as an insult.
