luckythisway 2,610
I think she should work on expanding it. If she does so by creating high quality broadly appealing synthpop the core audience will stick around for that too.

Ronk 14,762
Gaga should make the music that inspires her at each moment. The fan base may change accordingly, but what's important is Gaga creating anything she wants. I live outside the space time continuum.
Sizzily 14,543
She should continue expaning the range of genres she does. I think that will have more impact in the long run. Tears in the rain

Luc 4,775
No. Gay fans are extremely loyal and a true force when it comes to buying albums and singles. Gaga has these groups that are very loyal: - Bullied people, 'misfits' - Gays - Normal fans that want to see a rawer side of Gaga Teenage girls are just temporary fans most of the time, and Gaga shouldn't try to cater too much to them unless she wants to regain TFM-like success. If she keeps catering to gays and spreading the Born This Way message, she'll keep the first group. For the second group she has to stay a fabulous pop star like Madonna and Kylie Minogue that makes good pop music. The last group hasn't ever really bought Gaga's music besides maybe Born This Way and Cheek to Cheek. She has to become a little bit more authentic and raw for that. If she becomes more raw, like she's been hinting at, she'll appeal more to adults and non-pop fans while maintaining her core fanbase which is the gays. She could potentially pull off a Sam Smith- or Adele-like success.

Slojo 51
Gaga should just make the music she wants to and that makes her happy ---- the core audience will take care of itself ----- for example a lot of monsters didn't support C2C but the slack was taken up by Tony fans and the GP who did like it and so it was still a success. If you target one type of fan you simply lose another type that's just the way it is and you can't please everyone no matter how hard you try so it's best not to compromise in what you do
Ronk 14,762
When Dylan moved from acoustic to electric he was widely criticized and even booed at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965. His fan base was there for his acoustic style of folk music, but he was inspired to change. Those who were fans of the creative, artistic person would stay and be glad he followed his inspirations rather than become stylistically imprisoned by his fan base. I celebrate Gaga the person rather than the music she creates at any given time. An artist is best when unrestrained. I live outside the space time continuum. I celebrate Gaga the person rather than the music she creates at any given time. An artist is best when unrestrained. yep thats my feeling as well. I'm not really saying that Gaga should "target" a different audience, as much as to not feel pressured that she has to maintain one specific fan base, even one that made her famous in the first place. Personally I think targeting dance music would be a step back for her. I'm sure I'd like it if she did and of course I support her right to do whatever she want's but there is a larger world out there that deserves to know of Gaga as well; and I want her to explore whatever genre she wants. I still think a piano driven era would be perfect right now to capitalize on C2C good will and people starting to think differently about her. Unlike some core pop fans I'm not worried in the least if Gaga completely shifted things up and ended up alienating a bunch of original fans even further. Her career will last as long as she wants it to because of her innate talent, irrespective as to whether anyone on a pop board thinks she's "relevant". freebit 6,240
I think it'd be great for Gaga to grow with her audience in the coming years. I mean this as her writing about real things in her life that matter, and not completely stuck on hookup/in the club-type songs for a whole album (ike for example Britney has for the past three albums since Blackout). I shudder to mention Beyonce since the hive has been insufferable recently, but I do love how mature Beyonce's album was. Current, non Adele-type pop music for grown-ups is an underserved market right now IMO. It reminds me of how Brandon Flowers was annoyed at the kidz bop-style of current radio and was like, "what exactly do adults listen to on the radio these days?" TFM was a great example of sophisticated pop music for the most part IMO, which once again, seem to come from her personal experiences, and not the nostalgia of BTW, or a constant need to make an obvious statement (i.e. art, equality, which were great messages, but not as touching or hard hitting as something one can personally relate to). ByeBye49 161
If we can get rid of the fans who CONSTANTLY, RELIGIOUSLY AND OBSESSIVELY bash ARTPOP because it didn't perform as well and are afraid of what the other fan bases say, I would be ecstatic. Ecstatic This, except replace ARTPOP with anything that she has ever done.
