Positive sides and negative sides. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Gaga changed my life in a very special way which created a chain reaction. I acknowledge her as the person who changed whole path of my life. When I discovered her fully, I mean I knew her music, but with Born This Way I started to pay more attention to her. She made me accept myself as who I am, when I was a 15 years old boy struggling with his s-xuality... I came out to my parents when I was 16, my mom said: "it is your private life I am happy, if you are." My dad did not like it, we had a bad relationship for few months(we still do not talk about these issues tho), I insisted on going to a psychiatrist to talk about it. We went to a psychiatrist. After dealing with me and my dad's relationship, I continued going to him. This psychiatrist was also famous as a career coach, he made so many talents tests, then sent me to an education counselor to study university in north america(we decided it would be the best option for my education, and career goals). I took SATs etc. Now I am studying engineering in Canada, I am here thank to this reaction started by Gaga; otherwise, studying in Canada or USA was not even in our mind. My environment was very liberal in downtown Istanbul, but Turkey is still very conservative compared to Canada. It is very hard for an open gay person to have a respectable high paying job except for sectors related to art/performing arts/fashion/creative design. Now I can be openly who I am here, and that would not hamper my success in business life. I can also marry man I love in the future. As negative sides: I saw many other little monsters who are so s-xualized that s-xuality became the most important aspect of their personalities. I think that it is not good for anyone from any gender,any gender role or any s-xual orientation ... Being any extremely flamboyant gay is no different than being a macho, vulgar uneducated straight person... If I become an executive, I would not hire a flamboyant gay person just like I would not hire a proud-macho or a woman who acts like a ****star... I feel I have a special connection to someone I will probably never meet but she understands us. Born This Way came out when I was 15, the time I did not accept my s-xuality, and the whole era made me comfortable with who I really am. I actually believe that if it weren't for Gaga and especially Born This Way, I would still be uncomfortable with who I truly am. When I see it as a comment on billboard, MTV website etc, I cannot stop thinking how generic and unsubstantiated it sounds at first. Okay, that's an exaggeration. But it saved me from giving up and it stopped me from going into a dark place. ARTPOP came in a time I was feeling very sad and depressed. Man! You should've see my reaction when I first heard Applause. I cried, haha And then the whole album + and her whole rebel look and spirit made me 100% free. I may have accepted myself back in the Born This Way era, but I never was as free as I am now. Of course Born This Way, Marry The Night gave me the strength not to go downhill again, so I'll always be thankful for that, but ARTPOP truly made me realize I can be an amazing version of myself and now I'm free enough to enjoy things I usually wouldn't. I think ARTPOP's had more impact on me than any other albums from her. The whole era was a rush to me. It was excitment and joy and I had never been happier.
