squeala 875
That's quite true. I think that verse is her best in a collab But she kinda contributes to misogyny in the industry tho. women cannot contribute to misogyny misogyny is a war waged by men

KishiKCM 0
For example when she said Anaconda was supposed to be about feminism. How is it about feminism when it is basically about pleasing men to get what you want? It's not that she hasn't done anything for feminism, but her public career is based on s-xual objectification of women Pretty much agree with this! Lum 327
For example when she said Anaconda was supposed to be about feminism. How is it about feminism when it is basically about pleasing men to get what you want? It's not that she hasn't done anything for feminism, but her public career is based on s-xual objectification of women But what's different about Nicki is that she isn't doing s-xual things to please men. She has the power and control in all of her s-xual situations (Anaconda video) Nicki's stuff goes against this big undercurrent we have in our culture called the "male gaze", which is like the whole women being submissive to men for their pleasure and gain. Here's an article going in depth about what the male gaze means and it's role in our media and culture.https://finallyfeminism101.wordpress.com/2007/08/26/faq-what-is-the-%E2%80%9Cmale-gaze%E2%80%9D/
ItsTommyBitch 12,640
For example when she said Anaconda was supposed to be about feminism. How is it about feminism when it is basically about pleasing men to get what you want? It's not that she hasn't done anything for feminism, but her public career is based on s-xual objectification of women This is a touchy subject. I don't personally believe that Nicki had any pure "feminist" goals when she wrote the song, but rather that she is trying to twist it into one, because it sounds like the kind of song that is clearly created on a whim for fun The "feminist" approach of her song kind of lies in the fact that Feminists advocate for a woman's right to be dominant, submissive or anything in between. That being said, some women use s-xual appeal as a means of empowerment, and while I think its effect on society CAN be quite contradictory, I say all the power to the women themselves who do so I think that the lyrics of anaconda are less about "pleasing men" and more about men serving women. Keeping in mind that Anaconda itself is a bad example X_X In general though, Nicki likes to write lyrics where men are bowing down for her, or for women in general. Im not sure thats what people think of when they think "Feminism", but it can be a form of empowerment :shrug:She is always the person in charge of the s-xual acts, so it is distinct from simply making herself an object for men. I don't think that this kind of s-xualization Nicki occassionally partakes in contributes to "Misogyny" as in the hatred of women, but it might unfortunately further stereotypes of female objectification. Its complicated Beyonce does a lot of it too. I personally respect women who are comfortable in their own skin and flaunt it appropriately, its just a bad fact of modern society that its equated to s-xual objectification. Some disagree though. (Like for example, women who see Nicki, Beyonce or some other "strong" woman figure that show off their bodies might find that as empowering as well, or see them as body-positive role models, while some might think its a ploy to get male viewers since they have "no talent" ) Do you get my point? I'm a mess toight. 私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが, どんなに華やかな人生でも, どんなに悲惨な人生でも, いつかは変貌し, 破壊され、消滅してしまう. すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから

I'm a mess toight. I disagree about Anaconda. Lyrics like "Because he don't like 'em boney, he want something he can grab", "**** those skinny b---hes" and the sample "My Anaconda don't want none unless you got buns" are not contributing to feminism in any way. All these lyrics imply that men wouldn't be interested in her if it wasn't for her big butt. Once again men win, men decide who is important and who isn't. Even if she says she has the power and control in all of her s-xual situations it doesn't mean that's what really happens.

MallorySterling 0
I disagree about Anaconda. Even if she says she has the power and control in all of her s-xual situations it doesn't mean that's what really happens. It's kind of like "All About That Bass" with the "Yeah my momma she told me don't worry about your size, 'cause boys like a little more booty to hold at night" line. You're talking about empowering your body and yet you have to make it about what boys will accept or not, what they'll be attracted to or not. "Anaconda" suffers from the same thing. While I agree that people tend to label what is truly women showing their bodies as an empowerment tool as something "for the male gaze" or to say "she has no talent so she'll show her body", there are a few exceptions here that aren't really empowering at all - and I'm a supporter of the idea that women who want to show their bodies should do it independent if people think it's for men to drool over or not. But Nicki literally says it's for the male gaze so it kind of kills that point. Another problem of hers is the fact that she keeps talking about how hard it is to be a woman in the rap industry and yet she' extremely catty and competitive towards the ladies, a sort of competition she has with men but not nearly as personal as she makes it with female rappers. You can see a true woman supporter when you have women like Jessica Chastain supporting her female costars even when she loses to them, or when they're trashy to her. She just doesn't contribute to the fight, she supports them. Nicki Minaj is all about being personal and aggressive to new female rappers, and for what reason? Why doesn't she show that aggressiveness with the men that oppress her and the other women in the industry? Or is that one single line saying "You can be the King but watch the Queen conquer" in Monster plus a few interviews here and there all that she has to say or do on the matter? I think there are many female artists who contribute to feminism in different ways but Nicki contradicts her feminism with her actions.

I'm pretty sure that I said anaconda is a ****ty example Its inconsistent, which is why I said that she more tried to spin Anaconda into a feminist thing. She clearly didn't write it to be one :air: Anyway the subject was that she was exposing some of the misogynistic tendencies of Hip-Hop Culture Whether or not we agree with all of her actions and statements and how much of a "true" feminist she is isn't really the point 私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが, どんなに華やかな人生でも, どんなに悲惨な人生でも, いつかは変貌し, 破壊され、消滅してしまう. すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから

Especially considering it was only a song Nicki did for fun with her and her friends; she didn't even want to release it, and her label made her. Would some of you guys be saying the same thing about Lookin Ass, where Nicki literally calls out men left and right?
Death 9
There may be misogyny in Hip Hop but it doesn't seem like Nicki's quote, at least the one in the OP, is related to it Kanye and Jay-Z were the established artists in 2010 and she was the interesting new feature queen. What else would the situation be other than how she described it? She's much more established now though.
