Bloody 64,631
Both ARTPOP & Cheek To Cheek debuting at #1 in the US. Both are gold certified is this market. ARTPOP is at 750K and CTC has sold around 520K there, Worldwide numbers: 2,5 million and 870K respectively. Less than the previous albums, but still amazing. Applause being on Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 for 14 weeks and selling 4 million copies worldwide. Top 10 in around 30 countries. Do What U Want selling more than Applause in many European countries without a video. Top 3 in Canada and Top 10 in almost 20 countries. G.U.Y. having a combined total Youtube views of 82 million without radio support or any kind of promotion. ArtRave gross: 85 million. Cheek To Cheek, A JAZZ ALBUM WITH NO SINGLES, has outsold My Everything (3 top ten hits). The New Classic (2 top 10 hits), Ultraviolence (probably the most overhyped album of 2014). Cheek To Cheek has changed her public image for many people who considered she was just a crazy b---h. Many people have realised she's talented. Some of you say this is a boring album, a boring era, you want this to end, blah, blah, blah... This is exactly what Gaga needed in her career. And if you're still convinced Gaga is a flop, watch Do What U Want at The Voice and the AMA, Applause at the VMA, the SNL episode she hosted, her performances in Japan, Alan Carr, the Graham Norton Show, the SXSW festival, etc. and be THANKFUL because she gave us amazing moments this era. Gaga doesn't owe you NOTHING. None of these eras/albums are a flop. I'm tired of read stuff like that tbh.
AnglerfishbraBENUS 5,538
Can we all stop calling Cheek to Cheek a side project just because its not Pop or original music? It's not a side project its a full major label release with major promotion in a major market with quality music, a quality theatre tour and a PURPOSE. Why are we so scared of Jazz? StrawberryBlond 14,087
I don't know if Interscope expected the album to effortlessly sell a million in the US considering how well Duets II sold (with Gaga's feature being the most talked about and what helped it sell the most) and with Gaga's large fanbase, so I'm unsure if gold at this point is truly what they want. But there's no denying that it's a huge achievement for a jazz album with no hit singles or constant promo appearances and the current sales climate. To outsell My Everything and The New Classic, from two of the supposed it girls of the year, speaks volumes. To reach 1 million worldwide for such an album really would be quite a coup. It would have been disastrous for Gaga to slink away after ARTPOP and not release an album until 2016, as that would keep her away from the public's radar for too long (let's be real, a lot of them weren't even aware that ARTPOP exists). C2C has brought her back to form and into the public's consciousness again and will tide us over until her next solo release. After underperformance, one of the worst things an artist can do is spend several years being reclusive while working on a follow-up. That's why releasing a greatest hits album after a flop can be better than releasing nothing at all. C2C has ensured that Gaga didn't have to kill herself trying to make a completely original album in a year and potentially damage her creativity. It keeps her relevant without making her go insane in the process. And it's selling not too shabby into the bargain. Happy days.
