Ranking Gaga's acting so far

While we await Gaga's role(/cameo?) in Wednesday, let's take a look at Gaga's (major) roles so far. How would you rate them?
My takes:

1. ASIB
Imo, has her best overall acting. Most of it felt natural and she managed to make me believe I was watching Ally and not Gaga.

2. shared spot: AHS: Hotel & Joker: Folie à Deux
Hotel: while in some scenes (especially in the first episodes) her line delivery felt a bit stiff, she was electrifying in others!
Joker FAD: some stand-out scenes show how good of an actress she is

3. House of Gucci
While this role probably showcased the most range and nuances, it doesn't feel so memorable to me. I think this is because of the movie itself.


Overall, I would give Gaga a 7,5-8/10 for her acting (whereas she's clearly a 10/10 as a music artist ).

"bad" surprised me, tbh.
I get what you mean by actress-y, it's probably because so far she has always chosen these roles that feel "larger than life", quite like her music persona. That's why I've been saying these last years that I would like to see her in a "normal" role, where she's a 'normal' mom, teacher, nurse, whatever, to see how she would pull it off.

You're right, "bad" was too harsh- sorry

I've just never been sold on her performances & have always been distracted by her "acting" in a negative way. Watching her feels like a second-hand embarrassment chore to me.

Maybe more grounded roles, like you suggest... but I personally don't think she's very nuanced as an actor, regardless. That's why I think Broadway would be a better environment for her- she can act to the cheap seats.

(I'm prepared to eat my words on September 3rd, but I doubt I will be doing so lol)

HOG might actually be my favourite... "ahh papers!!" and "OUR name sweetie" live rent free in my head despite me not liking the movie at all

ASIB was also great and i disagree with anybody who says "well she was just playing herself", ally and fame-ga are incredibly different people

AHS actually feels like the role where she's just "playing herself" the most  but i only ever thought it was just ok, minus the scene where she slaps the f*ck out of evan peters, that kinda gagged me idk

Speaking only about acting results..

 

AHS: Hotel: 8/10

*i don't know if she was that good or she played the known old persona but still it was nice! In the scene with the outdoor cinema she was 😽 She was better than the movie/series n thats a win!

 

House of Gucci: 7/10

*same as above. Her Italian roots helps a lot here but it was hard job too for sure! She was maybe the best in the movie n thats a win!

 

Joker: Folie à Deux: 6/10

*same familiar waters in character n plot didn't help..  acting n movie in average status. Her first scene on Arkham Asylum was one of her best scenes in all things she have done, natural, calm,  but after that hmm..

 

ASIB: 5/10

*ok listen. That was a successful start for her n i m very glad she made it. The movie itself it was made for the GP a nice romance melodrama. They also saw her clean-cut for the very first time n for the GP that things works well. But.. acting speaking.. there was times i felt super awkward.. it was drama school firt year level (ok for a good student) -that toilet scream scene it was the worst thing of the movie (n they used it in promo omg). Someone above said "too actress-y" n i agree so much it was very theatrical n not in a very good way most of times. I guess it will be good for her to see someone else for acting lessons to change somehow her way on acting n explore things.

BUT.. it was her first big think on screen and its all forgiven because IF it was anyone alse unknown on its first job, it will be alright. She was already super famous and we all waited something more. Thank god, the music n her passion on stage was fire!

Ps. I am a theatrical stage-trained graduate actor/singer

For me she's a mediocre actress. I cringed a lot when they put her in those "Actor on actor" type of programs with really renowend actors who played in tons of movies. That's why I want her to focus on the music only.

 

Oh, and nominating her for Oscar, like wtf?

The only role I enjoyed from her were in the AHS roles, cause they felt natural to her, like an extension to her bigger than life stage persona. Everything else got me like... What is Gaga doing in this odd scenario?!  especially the HOG role (her and everyone elses) felt like a parody of a person.

I only care for her role as the Countess in AHS: Hotel. I also liked her role in Joker 2: FaD, despite the universal backlash.

ASIB is kinda just there. Good acting, good movie. Not super memorable, exciting or extraordinary, but very few music artists achieve such a success as actors, so it deserves its flowers. The soundtrack is where ofc she shines the brightest.

And then there's the Gucci one.... Nightmare, the whole thing was one of the biggest BS I've ever seen. After the movie I promised myself to never force myself to go watch sth just because Gaga is in it. After ASIB this role left such a nasty and embarrassing stain on her career. I think this is what ultimately put her in the B tier.

2/5 stick with singing and acting in music videos.

In Disease music video, there's a moment in the car when she starts with "scream it for me baby" where the sum of all her bad acting is really shining in this shot.

I love her, but she's not an actress, in ASIB she only shined when she sang live while filming, but in between she was pretty average.

I'm not saying Gaga is Meryl Streep but the way you guys made her sound like she hasn't done a remotely good job in a range of versatile and highly challenging roles is baffling to me

and this is coming from her own fanbase. I've met people from the GP who are way less harsh
