Ronk 14,762
As soon as acoustic and simple become the fashion, radio and the industry with saturate the market with generic product in that style. Happened with grunge rock (Nirvana to Creed and Nickelback) and 90's R&B (down to death). That's why Britney was a breathe of fresh air in kids in 1999. Yeah, but can you imagine what would happen when acoustic becomes the fashion ... Gaga's acoustics absolutely slay because she has the voice for it. I live outside the space time continuum. LilVenusian 579
My main concern is the fact that Iggy Azalea is a household name now
LilVenusian 579
I think, musically, pop has been moving in a really good place since 2012 (with the exceptions of maybe the fluke Jason Derulo hit or the like). People are craving more genuine forms of music, leading to the rise of the Sam Smiths and Lordes of the scene...I honestly don't understand how you all find this a bad thing. EDM is on the decline, so are songs about "being in da club", and artists like Tove Lo and Sia are finally getting the recognition they deserve. Music is getting better, not worse. I agree lot of great quality breakout artists who are probably gonna have long interesting careers have emerged over the past couple of years. 2008-2011 was dominated by production-driven catchy crap that could be sung by anyone whereas now we have traditional song writer type artists getting more shine and its very refreshing to see. Economy 49,819
and people still dont understand that theres no such thing as good music why argue about somkething that doesnt have a definite answer? why argue about something thats purely opinionative and subjective? what makes my tastes in music quality and who and i to say you like crappy music? IVe tried to say this so many tiomes but nobody leastens
destructivelove 563
I am glad to see that 'Chandelier' by Sia is in the top 20... That's actually a beautiful song. ...except it's literally just Diamonds with different lyrics My main concern is the fact that Iggy Azalea is a household name now my friends are obsessed...so that's all we listen to at parties now :awkney:
ARTPOPisaChoice 946
I think you guys don't realize that the "Club Boom" is over, it lasted from 2008-2011. Music is in a transition period. Besides, not everything has to be an ass-clapping twerkfest. Try listening to Hozier's fantastic debut album, Fall Out Boy's new single, Pink's duet album, The Foo Fighter's new single, Mary Lambert's amazing debut album. There's plenty of good music if you just try to find it. ...except it's literally just Diamonds with different lyrics my friends are obsessed...so that's all we listen to at parties now :awkney: Except Sia literally wrote Diamonds and Rihanna completely copies her vocal track :awkney: Hands up to the sky 🌧 I’ll be your galaxy 🌌
Sebastien 16
I'm pretty happy with how it is right now Taylor and Rihanna are right around the corner with their albums anyway Plus Fergie and Gwen Stefani Not to mention Reclassified by Iggy I think late 2014 until late 2015 will be one of the best years of pop ever Agreed. These past few months have been awesome for music; I've never had so many songs I love, and there's so many big releases coming up. I find that new artists are making better quality music than before, with less fillers.
Shadow 6,632
this was only a bop because its sampled this flawless song. After 4:44 the mamasay..mamasa, mamacusa part comes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Uj3zitETs4 I got to tip my hat to you for acknowledging the awesome, legendary music of MJ. Do your own research. Bradley 59,150
When G.U.Y. was released as a single and did not crack the top 10, we already knew music died since then.
Wet Fire 7,519
I agree it's not as exciting as it was a few years back.
freebit 6,240
Music is in an awkward transitional period right now, and that usually tends to produce a weird period for top 40 music (see 2003-05). There needs to be new exciting sounds so everyone can be inspired and branch off of that. I feel like it's just a waiting game right now for some new producer or artist to really take things to the next level. We need some new blood to get the ball rolling like Timbaland, Marc Ronson, Amy Winehouse etc did back then. This exactly. I have a feeling they're going to try to run this ~ indie sound into the ground, especially after Lorde took off last year.
Pure Adrenaline 1,518
the fact that I consider Telephone to be one of Gaga's most commercial/generic songs yet it sounds like Beethoven compared to the current iTunes top songs It's much more fun to have hizophrenia... u never get lonely
Pure Adrenaline 1,518
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yd8jh9QYfEs LIKE?? this was a BOP What is happening, has dance music just hit a wall or something? nostalgia is for geeks :emo: that was my bop before I discover Gags existence, bring out memories :emo: this was only a bop because its sampled this flawless song. After 4:44 the mamasay..mamasa, mamacusa part comes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Uj3zitETs4 I agree that it adds to the overall but the song was a bop and destined to be hit from the start ... if people didn't like it from the start they wouldn't bother to wait halfway through the song for that :) It's much more fun to have hizophrenia... u never get lonely
JazzGa 14,621
Ok, let me go ahead and put on my tinfoil hat before I say this But my theory is that the "hipster trend" ruined popular music. It has become cool to like music that no one else has heard of, to find fresh underground tunes to show your friends who have never heard them before. And it is lame to like the radio or big flashy video productions full of s-x appeal and designer wear. When a band scores an infectious widely-marketed hit that becomes popular with casual listeners, ("Omg it's the song from the ___ commercial this is my jam!") a good chunk of their original fanbase might leave because now the soccer moms and """the basics""" are listening to it, so it's lost its cred. So, since the influential tastemakers and blogging trendsetters are turning their backs on music when it becomes popular, to become a big hit a song must appeal to the more loyal customers, who are the less edgy and more average people. So the songwriting becomes less edgy and more average to appeal to them. That is my conspiracy theory I came up with. Pop 4,541
3 flawless Taylor Swift songs dominating the Top 5 and Tove Los bop are good, so I'm not complaining. But we do need some fresh new faces that aren't Tumblr famous. The Taylor Brigade: KNOCKOUT
