Mills 446
"Commissioning the help of a hotter, more bankable artist." - this statement alone (and its insinuation that it refers to Gaga) debunks the credibility of the entire review. Tony is universally revered whose career's longevity is beyond admirable, but Gaga IS the more bankable artist between the two. Not just today, but also in their entire careers so far. Numbers and record sales show it, and they're facts. Facts cannot be twisted, and this review badly attempted at it just to join the ever-so-cool Gaga hate bandwagon. It's utter bull**** to shamelessly mislead the readers that Gaga desperately needs this album because her career isn't as hot as before. She's releasing it because she loves the genre and the man whom she's singing with. Is that so hard to grasp? If she wants to boost her relevance, as this review suggests, she won't be collaborating with Tony Bennett. She'd hire the services of Dr. Luke and Max Martin, and also call Pitbull and Calvin Harris for more hits. Obviously, she didn't. Did she?

DeleteMyAccount 11,881
How come we didn't hear about it back then? I find it rather hard to believe that she wouldn't mention that. I guess we'll never know so I'll just shut up. Just trying to talk about possibilities, u know. It started with Lady is a Tramp I believe. And it[the record] probably wasn't sure deal until recently. ManuelColon 702
Wow i'm so shocked with that review. it's so unprofessional and rude. Critics are a mess, they let themself go by their feelings and end up writing reviews like that, i understand you don't like an album but come on that wasn't needed
LadyGagaStan93 129
How come we didn't hear about it back then? I find it rather hard to believe that she wouldn't mention that. I guess we'll never know so I'll just shut up. Just trying to talk about possibilities, u know. Gaga mentioned the Jazz album all the way back in 2012 during the Born This Way tour. There's even google receipts to back this up because she mentioned it frequently. The problem was that she had a busy tour schedule and they weren't able to get together and actually record it. This all came to fruition a bit after The Lady is a Tramp in 2011. So YES, this is "back then". Albums don't just pop out of vaginas like babies. giskardsb 12,565
So the reviewer is simultaneously complaining that she thinks Gaga is trying to sound like past icons, while giving her negative critique because she doesn't sing exactly like past icons. ooooookkkkaaaayyyy. Some of what she said could be considered legit critique, but she throws all credibility in the trash by disparaging Gaga's character from the start. Whenever anyone tries to say what they think jazz is "supposed" to sound like, it's clear that they don't understand the genre. Amy Winehouse didn't sound like anybody who sings vocal jazz is "supposed" to sound like, but she was genius. All those vocal mannerisms and changes in timbre and inflection are what make Gaga's vocals distinctly Gaga, and jazz vocalists are free to do that. There is no jazz law "thou shalt use the same timbre and voice sound throughout an entire song." Past icons may not have morphed their voice around like Gaga does, but that doesn't make Gaga's approach incorrect or "bad jazz."
Pure Adrenaline 1,518
not them dragging NB which was my fave of what we heard so far I just hope Gags don't go into breakdown mode 2.0 It's much more fun to have hizophrenia... u never get lonely
Pure Adrenaline 1,518
how could they say Nature Boy is not a gorgeous treat for your ears MY GOD this, the 1st few songs we get I only listened like 2 times the most ... but when I heard NB it was just music for my ears it's so calm and soft I now listen it like few times a day FOR me it's the best Gaga's jazz vocal attempt ever so far .... and the facct they dragged it to it's pits It's much more fun to have hizophrenia... u never get lonely
Stefani328 321
Sounds like the reviewer is reviewing her instead of her work Oh well Mte. They are way to focused on Gaga "The Artist" than the subject at hand.
Pure Adrenaline 1,518
Morphine, do you want me to be honest so that I can be dragged by people here again? Some pll here rly seem to live in denial since they react so strongly to any words of criticism about their idol, it's jusy insane. I don't know her intentions, nobody does, but I believe that one was to get the critics back in the simplest and safest way possible so that they don't trash her next pop effort like they trashed ARTPOP. While this review may be biased, it does make some good points. but NB is really good and they mocked it. I agree that, to some point, with the review where they say that she screams alot that's why I don't like Anything Goes but NB is really really good and I was surprised by Gaga's effort in that one It's much more fun to have hizophrenia... u never get lonely
ryhanna 3,507
What I find most sad about this is that many critics are unable to critique objectively, which defeats the entire purpose of their job. If the first thing you write in your article is about how the artist is supposedly fading and desperate for some relevance, then you're critiquing the artist, and not the music. In order to properly judge a piece of music, a critic should remove their own personal feelings on the artist and focus on the music as if they were listening to it without knowing who was singing, as if they were blind to everything but the music. So I hereby give this review an overall rating of 1/10. #CritiquingTheCritic
