Lawd mess, I woke up, and this thread is 7 pages long.

 

I live in the Deep South which has a higher black population than most of the rest of the country. In many establishments, you'll find signs that read "No Sagging" or "No Excessively Baggy Clothing." Is it targeting a specific demographic? Yes. I don't think that's deniable. Interestingly enough, though, you find these signs more often on African American-owned and operated businesses.

 

Now, it's ouright racism? I'm not so sure at that point. Is it racist if an African American-owned and operated business has such a dress code? Or is it only racist the owners and management are white?

 

Also, here's another point that bothers me: If you go to a high-end bar or restaurant, you wouldn't show up dressed like a hood rat any more than you would show up dressed like a trashy redneck in your ripped overalls and faded Hank Williams Jr. t-shirt. It's purely a matter of social etiquette and decorum, and people shouldn't have to spell that out for you.  :roll:

Yes, because they had to work and manipulate the system to get their platform. They couldn't just go on a TV show and speak the truth, they had to play the game of the system and then use that platform once it was given to them to voice out the true inequality.

If you knew anything about Malcolm X and his movement then you would know this was not his method. He was a Black Separatist leader. He argued it wasn't necessary to work with the white dominated system and to create a black society of its own away from white domination. If a separatist leader like him, who emphasized Black Power and separatist principles in the form of uplifting the African-American community, wore "white" clothes then I don't think they are "white" clothes.

You're telling me that there would be no difference between wearing a suit and tie and wearing raggedy, torn-up clothes? Both are extremes, but they are examples of different mannerisms. It is perfectly understandable for a club to have restrictions on clothing that is not fit for a high-end club. Would you go to a fancy club in athletic gear? Would you go to your best friend's wedding wearing a belly shirt and a short shorts? I do think that they should have included more restrictions on their list (like belly-shirts and short shorts, for example) but there's nothing wrong with a classy club wanting you to dress classy.

I am aware of Bar Louie, but I have not heard anything about this issue from anyone, or in any local news.
