That's a nice way to put it, but as a Black male who is mature enough to have a conversation with a non-Black person over the N-word (which I've had many times in a calmly/friendly manner), I still find it very uncomfortable for them to use it while we talk.. even if they feel the word should not be used. If you value a comfortable conversation over an honest conversation then you don't get to sit at the big kids table when uncomfortable matters are being discussed. Well, when you and your friends have been verbally assaulted and harassed by a old White male with racial slurs and insults like "N-i-g-g-e-r" and "Human ****" (like I have in the past) you would have your guard up whenever the word is used by someone by who isn't Black even in the most frank form.
