Art is open to interpretation, yeah?

Art is open to interpretation but Demi went further than that, she blamed Gaga for her own interpretation.

Other people agree with her yes but they only do now that she has said it, now they see it that way too where as before the response was either positive or people just thought it was gross.

Gaga can't help how her work may be seen by others.

That's part of art though- debating if it is in fact art or in this case for shock value.

It is one thing to say "this is wrong or this is right?" but she said she had to stop. That's not interpreting an art performance.

Kindness rules all.

I don't think she was interpreting it though. She was saying it's unacceptable, not art and wrong. She said Gaga shouldn't be doing that..

That's just part of any art. Read below:

Even Gaga said that she loves that people debate about whether things are art or not, because that is ENTIRELY the point of performance art. :applause:

Yes, exactly! I completely agree with you and have been saying this as well.

Not really- I mean there are many kinds of art that people think are not art and need to stop.

It's debating on what is art.

Also saying something that is art isn't art is just annoying. Art applies to a great many things, it's a loosely defined term for a reason but so many people seem to think art is what they arbitrarily decide it is.

As soon as they dislike it or think it second rate it becomes not art in their mind. This makes no sense, the world is full of crap art but it's all still art despite being crap.

Really?? I think some of the comments eventually got removed. Twitter was full of them though. Things like "cut deeper" and "ur still fat".

Even some comments on a neutral article on Buzzfeed earlier had a bunch of LM talking shxt to people who also felt like Demi's poin of view made sense. That's what sparked this.

I meant here on GGD. But damn, that's horrible. I honestly can't believe people would say such things to each other. :wtf:

So why is Demi "wrong" in what she interpreted the performance as?

I've seen a lot of comments online and on Tumblr saying people also felt like it had to do with bulimia, even if the song was not praising it. I even thought of it the first time I watched it.

It's how she, and many others, connected to the issue, feel about the performance- so why do some users feel the need to put her down, call her fat, and a stupid bxtch? That just speaks to the maturity and shallowness of those people.

I do not think either Gaga or Demi is wrong or right. They are interpreting a piece differently. The artist's intention is NOT something everyone has to see in a piece.

Yet the same users bend over backwards to defend Gaga when she does or doesn't interpret something the same way it was perhaps intended- "It's art! It can mean anything."

Sounds like a bunch of hypocrites to me.

Eating disorders are a very serious issue and if a large number of people think that it in some way uses ED as a form of shock.

I've noticed about 99% of the people calling Demi stupid or fat are relatively fit gay boys---

You realize eating disorders are now a very large part ingrained in gay culture, right?

And that they are NOT healthy? That people really should raise awareness for them?

Get over your personal bias and realize the bigger issue.

Before you start bxtching, no, I'm not a Demi fan. No, I don't think the puke was offensive, but I don't think anyone should be put down for standing up for a serious issue that is often ignored otherwise.

Demi attacked. Spoke for everyone. Betch pls.

I agree. Why are you surprised though, there always people like them, especially on the internet.

Also in my opinion Demi was overeacting. This performance would neve have influence of bulimic persons. Noone would become bulimic from this, it was performance art. SHe could have expressed better her opinion.

There are bigger problems in the world.

I don't actually hate Demi for this, I am annoyed with her but I think she means well. She cares about these issues and she just ended up dinging herself into a hole.

I don't think everyone realizes that art isn't a definite term.

I'm wondering why people still think something is "wrong", when it is just someone's opposite opinion.

She obviously feels so against this that she doesn't see it as art as much as it is exploitation.

How is that wrong of her?

Because she didn't get it?

She can't decide what is art? I think everyone has that right.

Because she targeted Gaga, politely, and said she really thinks it needs to stop?

So many people jump on defense for it.

I find Millie Brown's work itself disgusting and actually rather in support of eating disorders, but it's "art", so it's whatever.
