bouloukako 0
So is Tumblr considered a reputable source now? Anyhow, the reason for Gaga's decline is very simple: the quality of her work has gotten significantly worse. this
No Angel 128
Gaga's decline was because she did too much too soon. She pushed people too far and became too dark. Alejandro music video, the Meat Dress, the egg and those ugly Born This Way horns, then Judas. By then people were tired of her antics because they became less innovative and more about blatant controversy. It didn't help that Adele had a massive breakthrough around the same time. Adele was basically the anti-Gaga and gave the public more reason to turn on her. It's the same thing that happened with Madonna. She was on top of the world until she went too far with Erotica and the Sex Book. Madonna was able to rebound by reinventing herself. Gaga can do the same. It's just that the ARTPOP era was very messy and didn't make enough of a splash. There was too much competition with Katy and Miley's comeback. Gaga's comeback needed to make a much bigger splash, especially coming off a media blackout. Gaga's personality has also changed dramatically with Born This Way. She's no longer fearless and mysterious. She has become preachy, whiny, and insecure, and that turns off a lot of people. Damnit.
uo111 5,265
Until the G.U.Y. music video releases and she starts touring with a new album out. I believe she knows what she is doing. ARTPOP did not do exceptional but, if anyone really believes it flopped they are an idiot.

Batwings 12,885
It's kind of eerie how this era was originally intended to focus on "the decay of the blonde popstar." INB4 Gaga is intentionally sabotaging herself as a piece of performance art.
Elizabeth 450
Interesting. I agree with some of it but I'd probably look at the whole thing from a different angle.

The major problem is that she didn't get establish a good relationship with the GP, right after she got their attention she started swallowing crosses and making religious and political statements and that turned people off, together with the fact she dissed her 'mysterious' persona to build a mother-like image. MJHolland 12,725
This article was so polarizing for me. A lot is total bull, but other parts were scary accurate. I completely disagree on how it talks about how American culture is killing these pop queens. The examples in the beginning were totally off target. J Lo? Britney? Those artists don't have anyone to blame for their career lags but themselves. Honestly, it had absolutely nothing to do with this collective, quasi-conspirical "America" that looks to destroy famous people. For you outsiders, we don't agree on anything here in the US, much less how to treat celebrities. Quit frankly, american paparazzi/ media frenzies have passed their highest point. I believe that the peak in this type of savage reporting climaxed at Marilyn's death. I think European savage pop culture climaxed at Princess Diana's death, which was a lot more resent. Today, these artists are falling out of the spotlight for one reason and one reason only; they start releasing crappy content or don't release content at all. That's what happened to Gaga. Now while it wasn't her fault that she stopped creating music for two years (TWO YEARS) since she got hurt on tour, it's still what happened. If you stop doing the thing that you are famous for, then you will stop being famous. If it's not like that in other places, you're just sugarcoating it. Celebrities have jobs and fame is their currency. If you do your job well, we praise you. If you don't do it well, then don't expect us the still love you. A lot of people can't handle that because they get too accustomed to feeling like royalty. Maybe THAT is where America truly sabotages celebrities. We treated them TOO well, so when they mess up, oh boy do they feel it. I do agree about pitting Katy and Gaga against each other though. That was very, very harsh and odd. To give credit though, it wasn't just a domestic thing here in the states. Don't try to pass blame, because everyone was talking about Applause v. Roar. And everyone kept talking about how people needed to stop pitting them against each other. To be honest, people cried about how unjust it was to pit the two artists against each other than they were actually being pitted against each other. But it really just solidified how much they were competing against one another.
tristessa 0
I agree with the main premise that society likes to build people up and tear them down, but I found much of this to be totally exaggerated, "America turned on her like wild animals", "She will become a pop martyr because no one appreciates her worth", etc. like give people a little more credit than that, Gaga is still hugely successful and the public put her in that position, just because ARTPOP didn't perform to expectations doesn't mean everyone hates her now, and as another user said, her own output plays a role in that too. Emvee 8,421
So where was beyonce's crash and burn? 4. It didn't even spawn a top 10. But of course nobody made a big deal about that.
GlitteredSpandex 0
4. It didn't even spawn a top 10. But of course nobody made a big deal about that. But then she went on to perform it at the superbowl and has become the highest paid black singer of all time from the tour? Yeah no
JustPokeHerFace 2,564
There's a good amount of truth in that album. Honestly, all artists that rise to the level of fame that Gaga, Beyonce, Eminem, Britney, Whitney, Mariah, Madonna, and Michael did have eras that are less successful than what they are known for. Most get told that they are "over" at one point or another. But they usually end up having a strong comeback, and I feel confident Gaga will do the same but only if she does something she's never done before. Yeah no That is besides the point? The fact is "4" really underperformed, just as ARTPOP is doing. Yet even if the ArtRave does well, Gaga's brand and the ARTPOP name will forever be tainted by the media with a massive label that says flop. Seems everyone just ignored 4 as a collection of songs Beyonce blessed the world with as a gift. No biggie Lol
