FGGrayson 9,670
Dark-pop is a genre that applies to songs that are sonically pop yet dark in production. VISION 52
Applause and Venus are also considered Dark Pop. ย Why though? They seem like cheerful and "bright" songs with lighter music. And the lyrics don't suggest anything dark

They seem like cheerful and "bright" songs with lighter music. And the lyrics don't suggest anything darkIf Only Fame had an IV baby could I bear etc, I guess Sir if you say so etc on Applause have all dark hidden maenings about Fame obsession, d--gs, critics etc. I consider Venus to be a dark song as a whole, the whole enviroment it creates is really dark + it has s-xual references. Nothing makes PokerFace more dark than the songs above.
freebit 6,111
I'm always here for the darker songs. I hope she does a dark album again after giving us a break with ARTPOP, like an updated version of Britney's Blackout (or something like Peaches or Gossip if she's wants to do something more rock). I wouldn't consider G.U.Y. to be a dark song though. The lyrics and instrumental feel very "bright" to me if that makes sense.
