Venus is actually more basic than Gypsy verse 1>pre chorus>chorus>verse 2>pre chorus>chorus>bridge>chorus. While Gypsy's structure is more diverse. no pop ballad is not basic, Dope (it is pop ballad just not power ballad) is not basic, The Edge of Glory is not basic, Speechless is not basic. Plus Venus has the biggest exposure out there, an audio on YouTube and it also had top 3 songs on iTunes exposure when it was released. No, but people do want some variety on their playlist/radio. If every artist would make Katy Perry kind of songs people will get easily bored. They know Gaga from her bombastic and weird sounds so they will probably like it more that way than safe songs. DWUW is exactly the example of that. And as I said somewhere above Venus isn't a song you instantly like. So that would explain the charts position. I'm not sure about how Venus will do.
