It was a big hit in Japan, Brazil, Canada, Russia, Italy, Spain 3 of the biggest music markets.  It was also a moderate hit in the UK, France, Central European and Balkan countries.

Is it safe to say that Do What U Want is selling better than Unconditionally? Not trying to compare or shade im genuinely curious, I havent seen figures for them both yet, and they were released around the same time? Or do we know. Curious because both songs are either right neck and neck or just one or two songs in between them.

Yes it's safe to say DWUW is doing better.

It's higher than Uncle on iTunes if you combine both versions, with less airplay and no music video.

At the moment, it wont help if the album is discounted. People can buy it at 4 $ on Amazon or Google Play, but they seem not to do it, so first we need that DWUW becomes a huge hit. After that, they can try to sell the album by doing different things, including discounts.

Sales can't prove anything in countries that sales don't mean anything. :awkney:

Seems like Gaga's promotion with this album is wavy and it seems like the first wave of ARTPOP promotion in the USA is left behind: the SNL, The Howard Stern Show, American Music Awards, Ellen and Thanksgiving Special.

The promotion in the season so close to Christmas may not be necessary, as the best promotion in holiday season is just proper pricing (ARTPOP is relatively expensive) and some advert. This probably leads to the idea that the second massive wave of promo will  come in January with the Grammy Awards line-up, possibly DO WHAT U WANT music video and talk shows in February (I can't imagine Gaga releasing DWUW video this month, I don't know why)

And if GYPSY is released in mid March to early April time period, then it will probably crack the TOP 20 on Pop radio right around the time Gaga starts artRave: The ARTPOP Ball. Having GYPSY on the radio together with touring the USA/Canada could be considered the third wave of promotion. (I believe GYPSY doesn't need Grammy performance because, first of all, it's pretty strong track which can take off on Pop Radio by its own musical power and, secondly, I think DO WHAT U WANT will be pretty strong around the end of January)

After the tour she once again has the VMAs platform to launch the fourth single and then leave USA for touring overseas. 2015 is booked for space journey and artRave: The ARTPOP Ball tour  Then I can imagine the album lasting for two years  :legend:

No it wasn't. Applause is still selling in Japan and its far from over. In Brazil it was a big hit and it was confirmed by Brazilians. In Canada it was very big obviously. It was very successful in Italy and it did very well in Spain.

There aren't any WW sales lately if I'm not mistaken so I don't know. I am talking about performance and impact. Or are you doubting Its performance in countries like Japan Brazil and Canada or thay they are in the top 10 biggest music markets?

In Japan it spend only one week in top 10, but it had better longevity that in UK or France, so I will say that it was a hit. The same wih Italy and Spain. For me, to be a big hit, it needs to end in top 20 on the year-end charts. I dont see that happening. Not sure it will happen even in US.

Sorry, but going inside the top10 doesn't make a song a big hit. Its sales/airplay make that or its streaming. How is a song that's around 3m WW with almost 2m coming from US a big hit WW?

I never said big. I said just a hit or even a moderate hit. You said it was a flop or at least this is what I understood...
