Honestly I genuinely feel like this is what made 143 receive the backlash it got and why the era truly flopped.

 

Everyone knows in order to make a comeback you have to make your core crowd happy again so they can elevate you back into the pop cultural conversation. When she pissed off a lot of gays and girls with this decision, she ruined 143.

 

Before that, she genuinely had a little wind behind her back because Smile was a decent pop album and people were craving pop from her. And honestly, 143 is immature and basic, but it’s not totally impossible to enjoy. “Lifetimes”, “I’m His, He’s Mine”, “Crush”, and “Nirvana” are decent pop songs that could have added some new hits to her discography. 
 

Woman’s World was a mistake though and a temu Stupid Love. 
 

I think if Lifetimes was the lead followed by I’m His, He’s Mine that she could have pulled off a Chromatica sized era that would be largely viewed as a decent pop release with some filler and a fun little comeback. Would have set her up to be taken more serious with an eventual pop-rock comeback too.

 

But just that one bad decision can kill you and snowball.

 

This is actually why I am worried about Gaga not speaking up about Palestine. The perception of Gaga right now is actually not very strong. She has been lumped in with Zionism whether you like it or not and if she doesn’t say anything at least as a business decision I fear LG8 could flop hard. The Zio-accusations and choice to be silent could be her Dr. Luke.

How can you not be self-aware enough to not know that this wasn't a good idea in the first place?? She's a grown ass adult and she's able to make her own choices. Where exactly is the accountability?

More likely it was an executive decision from A&R and her publicist during the Kesha trial. They probably just assumed because he had worked on new music under a pseudonym and then under his own name again in recent time it was fine to do so.

She could’ve said no. Also she showed no artistic evolution. And her fanbase is clearly lazy or nonexistent because she didn’t even have enough fan support to have a top 40 single or good album sales.

Which is why it’s obvious that Legendary Lovers and The One That Got Away was primarily down to bought and suggested streams. Because literally nothing else in her discography is even remotely close to daily streams of them. At least Gaga has about 6 songs that roughly keep going between 1-2m a day. Every other song in Katy’s discography gets about 500k-1m max. Her lowest streamed song got 4k recently, Gaga’a lowest for 25k.

Nicki had #1 with Luke at the time so that's probably how he convinced her to work with him.

Should also note that Gaga’a lowest streamed ones are more streamed than Katy’s. Hers are full songs and Gaga’a are the scene clips from ASIB and the Chromatica interludes.  and Gaga’a still has more streams

People back in 2024 were saying (and I agree) that Nicki Minajs success with Super Freaky Girl, a Dr. Puke production, was the catalyst for Katy working with him again.
