StefJAGermanotta 2
This is my perspective.. Record companies don't make money off of tours, the artist does, that's where the artist shines most, through ticket sales and merchandising. Where the record company reaps benefits, is when their artist sells hundreds of thousands of albums in their first week or so. That way the management and all of those responsible, get praise for managing a successful album recording and release. Yet Gaga, her producers, musicians etc. are the ones who put in all of the hard work, yet see's no money for all of the effort put in. It's the only huge negative about record companies. It's exposure for the artist and their work, but they're basically prostitutes to the company. Hence why they choose the singles and not Gaga and seem to make every mistake under the sun and change plans when a song is more popular than the one they planned to release. And that's why Gaga is no longer holding back in calling them out, because it's not in their best interest to support her, only make as much money as they can from her music sales, since the music industry is almost dead and record companies know this, so they clutch on to their Eminem's, Miley Cyrus's and Just Timberlake's and push their releases as hard as they can, because they're their only guaranteed life source they can rely on and they can rely on those artists to bide them some more time before the world decides to ditch buying ridiculously priced music altogether. Clearly the record industry is corrupt, but they do have a 360 deal with Gaga, meaning they take in all profits from all of her endeavors, including tour, merchandise, business deals, etc! So they want to make as much money as possible, so they do want Gaga to succeed financially. The thing is that Gaga doesn't care about the money and she wants to release different singles regardless of the financial situation, which the record industry is against, so they are compromising her artistic integrity for profit. Yes, exactly! Honestly, I think she's making an excellent statement. I know she talks about wanting to stick to her artistic integrity, but that fact that she's literally doing what she's saying takes balls.
