Weird review. They're actually pretty negative. A 7/10 is unexpected after reading that.

Yeah, this.

I was hesitating to even open this. Damn. Well done Gags!

''In the end, though, it's ARTPOP's most naked, straightforward pop moments that are the album's most redemptive. As Gaga concedes: "Sometimes the simplest move is right/The melody that you choose can rescue you."''

This is serious a good conclusion of ARTPOP.

It's bothersome that pop music gets such a bad rap. There's a lot of work that goes into pop music, and I feel like that gets unnoticed or under appreciated, because people just assume most pop music is vapid and devoid of meaning. I'm not just saying this specifically about this review, but about a lot of the reviews about Gaga in recent years. And I'm not saying people should be praising the ground she walks on, but I feel like they don't take her very seriously simply because she is a pop star.

Strange review. The paragraph dedicated to comparing her to Madonna was annoying.

But hey 7/10 from them seems to be pretty decent.

i hate these reviews. idc about their opinions on the music lol theyre pry 40 yr old people who dont even understand it. i promise u that my parents and i would review the album 100% differently so does one persons opinion really change anything? not to me. i love what ive heard so far (waiting on a few big tracks still)

It's Slant... They hate EVERYTHING. I followed their movie reviews for a while and every single film, no matter how brilliant and critically-acclaimed it was, got lambasted with self-aggrandizing contrarianism and pedantry. It's not just one person, sadly, they all seem to have that mindset.

Considering all this I'm surprised they gave her a 7/10, actually.

That score was very unexpected after reading the actual review.

And those madonna references I see have made it into yet another review :fail:

I was hoping Sal would get her album again, as he was quite a proponent of BTW.

I think he nails this, actually. In a lot of ways, it's a step backward for her, and a definite attempt to re-legitimize her "star." And there's quite a bit that doesn't quite work. But, there's quite a bit that does, too, because for all her faults, Gaga's just good at crafting a pop song.

I actually really like Slant Magazine and was anticipating their review. I'm pretty happy with it, actually.

Also, calling Jewels & Drugs a dismal, trap-induced dud. :rip:

Pretty good. Slant can be pretty harsh in reviews.

Take a moment to think of just flexibility, love, and trust~

Just A Holy Fool

I feel a lot of critics really grasp at straws with trying to endlessly compare her to Madonna. She will never get out from under that rock unfortunately. Its ironic, because when she first hit the scene... there was nothing Madonna about her except that she was a blonde italian pop singer :laughga:

The first time I really saw "Madonna" in her was the Alejandro video.
