Radio picking it up later on: see Applause I really am thinking that having a great first week on radio instead of having to build up your AI is much better, look at Roar. See: http://kworb.net/radio/hac/archives/20130822.html Just a week after its release, it already has the AI on HAC where Applause peaked a few days ago. Applause only had 3 mil AI there. Having radio pick up your song early does mean a higher peak but also that people will get sick of the song faster, and that the song will peak earlier. However: Roar peaked much earlier, yet it still has over 1,5x the AI Applause has (and peaked at) in the US because of the fast start. Roar also didn't leave the #6 since its release while having almost the same promotion as Gaga (besides iHeartRadio, we're talking about pre-album promo). It's normal for Pop radio to pick up a song by a big pop star early, but should we focus on building up Gaga's AI next time or making it an instant smash? Only AC took longer to pick up on Roar, yet it was getting bigger updates on AC than Applause's total AI on AC just a month and a day after its release. What I'm saying is, should we mass request first three weeks? It will surely improve first week sales, holiday sales etc if the biggest hit of the moment on the radio is peaking during mid-November/early-December.
