Nemo 4,209
Too bad the quote in the title isn't what she said at all.Yeah, it's a gross misrepresentation of the actual interview (which was lovely BTW). Which the article doesn't even credit.
Lux Zappa 0
I think this should go for all artists albums. Break down track by track is just another way to look at things, but this whole album seems very, very raw. A side of her she hasn't exposed to the public... Outside of her bedroom that is... StrawberryBlond 14,214
The joy of having hit singles is somewhat diffused when your album sales are lacklustre. Despite amazing eras from the likes of Katy and Rihanna, they've never had an album sell like The Fame (that's not including combined sales from TFM). Neither have they ever had a tour that's come close to pulling in the audiences and grosses of TMB (or even TBTWB). Hell, most of their singles aren't even absorbed into the public consciousness. Katy isn't taken seriously by any music committee outwith the VMAs and the Teen Choice Awards, or indeed, by anyone over the age of 30. Rihanna has released far too many singles for the public to recall outwith her hardest hitting ones and she also releases too many albums for the public to acknowledge and keep up with. Gaga is one of the few current popstars who has high album sales, moderately successful singles, $200 million grossing world tours and critical acclaim. Every artist has one weak link in that set and for Gaga, it's apparent that her power as regards singles is waning. But she's still got the other three and most artists actually have two or three weak links in that set. Gaga knows where she stands as regards her music and wants to focus on doing what she does best - huge album sales and massive world tours. Much better than some #1 singles that no one can remember in five years and barely making $50 million on tour.

bobhabanai 0
I can't at people shading Applause and saying it was a bad single choice and a flop. The song is catchy as hell. Lyrically, it's different from anything else out there: at first, I was like when I heard the verses, now I can't stop repeating them. It was an excellent choice for a come back single. Some fans jsut don't seem to understand that Gaga suffered a huge backlash, not only from the GP, but also from previous fans who deserted her after the relative lackluster success of BTW. She is rebuilding her relevance, although by reinventing herself and not repeating herself, and applause is a great choice because she's not only talking to her fans, but also to the GP. She's crafting an image of herself that will make people find her attractive, love her again. The first single is not supposed to be a smash, but a growing hit that will make people be interested in her again. If she opened with huge sales, she would have gone downward afterwards, just like with BTW. Gaga is a genius of a business woman. She played new songs from ARTPOP more than 2 months before its release. Why? cause she wanted to make sure that people (fans and GP) get a taste of the album (and what an album it seems so far, 1 word: SLAYAGE). The souns is fresh, yet within reach of all audiences. The genres are many: of pop, disco, hip-hop and EDM and while I'm sure there are other great tracks, I have the imprression that the 7 she played are the ones that are more instantly likable, whereas the others might be more experimental, with one song probably being kept a secret either because it will smash or because of a highly visible collaboration. after so much promo! the song is struggling! i dont think the label would promote so much a song that werent meant to be a smash! i think we might be getting a new single next month...and then another single before album release...gaga should preform "jewles and d--gs" or i wanna be with you..at the x factor...to get attention from the younger fans...jewles and d--gs will be a definite smash!! conciderring it can be huge party anthem, and t.i rides on the blurred lines popularity... Nemo 4,209
How so?How is it a misrepresentation? Well, in the interview, they weren't talking about how successful "Applause" was, or wasn't, at all. This piece makes it sound like she was being defensive, which is completely untrue.
