Daredevil 2,133
I like the song, but it's not her best one. The production is amazing. DJWS puts so much details in his production, it's incredible. In applause you can hear the cheering of the crowd and even I can hear that with my cheap ass headphones. But also in the song the edge of glory you hear the heart beat at the beginning (life begins) and at the end of the song you hear the flatline (played with the saxo). In Electric Chapel you hear the bells at the end of the song and now it should be clear why Gaga loves DjWS so much. But back to Applause... I love Gaga's falsetto, but it's kinda sad that she didn't put a bridge between the song. Most people have ear-orgasms in these part, because it mostly sounds different from the chorus and verse. The lyrics are also good. I have nothing to complain about :)
Stefani 25
Who can relate to that though? HONESTLY Relatablility is a huge part of songwriting. This particular line is not so bad, because you can KIND OF relate it back to needing to feel loved. However things like "suddenly the koons is me" and "art and pop culture in me" are relatable solely to gaga. / She has written songs similarly about herself before (see Hair), but the themes in those songs are relatable to other people. Which is what this song lacks, lyrically. So you dislike its unrelatabilty, ok then. I understand not being able to relate to the koons and art part but is that a major flaw in this song. I believe the messy production and the lack of an amazing bridge makes applause kinda crappy but not because its not relatable. The majority of the soong is relatable soo yea. Look at alejandro, hml etc they arent that relatable and they are amazing.

crownlessking 158
Oh, thank God for this thread and most of its posts. I thought there was something "wrong" with me for not stanning hard for it. Loved it upon first listen, but I feel that was just because it was Gaga, ya know? I don't like the out-dated production (but love the crowd cheering part). I like the idea of her spelling out Applause and ARTPOP but I wish they were done with more impact. I do enjoy those parts, though. The lyrics are good. But, overall... it feels like it's missing something. Something big. I feel like this some is one of her most forgettable songs (at least as a lead, anyway). I enjoy listening to it, but it feels... empty. Very empty. (Aura, on the other hand, slayed me, so hopefully she's aware of the "emptiness" and just wanted to put out a mediocre, safe, track). gagarunner 0
It's a good song, not great. -I think the lack of a real bridge makes the song feel incomplete. -The lyrics in the verses (for a single) are NOT radio friendly at all. her vocals are great and the melody in the verses are amazing, different, and super catchy, but some of the lyrics are just, to be honest, kinda lame. 'Nostalgia is for geeks', 'if fame had an IV' 'some of us just like to read'. The lyrics kinda take out the 'fun' of the song. Sometimes when listening to it, I start it at the 'one second I'm a koons' part so I don't have to hear the other verses. -that being said, it's still better than anything on the radio. I just wish this lead single had the same magic that the first 3 lead singles had. I do think it's a good song though! I just have high standards, especially when it comes to gagas work. Well see at 'SWINEFEST' all the other first single 'possibilities'.

Celina 118
At first I was a little disappointed in the lyrics because I hadn't quite understood them yet and felt the song lacked depth (lol at how wrong I was but it's an easy mistake to make on first listen tbh), but I loved the sound of the song from the start. I honestly can't believe the people who are saying it sounds basic. It's super catchy and dancey, but I wouldn't call it "basic." After she explained it and I began to really listen to the lyrics, my opinion completely changed. As a fan/monster, I find it very "relatable" but not in the conventional sense of relating to a song; she wrote it about the energy we exchange with her during shows, and that's what I connect to. I think of it this way; when a fan writes about how they feel when they see Gaga live, you can relate to that directly, but this is Gaga's side of this relationship when she's onstage, so even though it's not a direct relation to you (unless you're some type of artist and know how that exchange with a fanbase feels), it just makes you feel the mutuality in this experience, and idk I might just be blabbing right now but after hearing her talk about it and then thinking about the song on my own, it's started to really speak to me. In comparison to the verses, the chorus is pretty weak lyrically, but the amazing melodies make up for that. 9.999/10 and of course
