StrawberryBlond 14,331
Gaga has no chance of reaching number 1 this week (neither does Katy...well if she still sells the amount she's selling now she has). Wait for next week, Katy deal with the radio stations will be over and Gaga's deal kicks in and we also will have the video. (Praying for it to be good tbh) Finally, someone who spills the truth tea! Katy has the advantage of having her radio deal currently because she's releasing her single when it was supposed to be released. Gaga released hers early, so her radio deal doesn't start until Monday. Katy also had all her fans ready and waiting for yesterday and put up her lyric video on schedule. Gaga caught her fans off-guard by releasing a week early, so not all of them may even be aware that her single's out and she rush released her video hours after Katy's. With a radio deal, releasing on the planned day and a prompt lyric video and it's no surprise that she's #1 at the moment. Gaga doesn't have a radio deal at the moment, released too early and had her video up 10 hours after Katy's, so it's pretty expected that she would be #2 at this point and it's amazing that she has all this support and has gone to #1 in 35 countries despite not releasing as scheduled. Gaga is also only 600,000 views behind on Katy despite a 10 hour release gap and she has over 11,000 likes more than Katy into the bargain. Once the 19th arrives, Gaga's exposure and US support will go through the roof. The radio deal, music video, YouTube ads before videos and other various promotional opportunities will kick off, which is more than what Katy's doing right now. On the 25th, she'll be performing at the VMAs and headlining the iTunes festival on September 1st with the promise of new music. Unlike other countries, the US has something called "sleeper hits." Some songs can go weeks and weeks until they finally reach #1 in the US because the country is so populated that it takes time for a song to really sink into the public consciousness and downloads remain at the same level for ages. While a #1 isn't guaranteed exactly, she's going to have one hell of a chance starting from next week. So, as we say in Scotland: "Calm yer jets." (Keep calm and carry on, basically ;) ).
