Well if they release the singles within a week or so then it will be hard for both of them to hit No.1.

Plot twist: None of them get No. 1 but Miley finally does :laughga:

let us go hack ITunes and delete Blurred Lines

I've had enough of this song

I think most people assume the song will drop quickly (ala BTW).

I feel like if Interscope thought that "Applause" would peak really early, they wouldn't have the album release nearly three months later. :/

That was my thinking as well. They probably had the same thought with BTW, but I don't think anyone expected her lead single to fall that fast.

I certainly wasn't expecting "BTW" to last until May, but I think that it still peaked earlier than they were hoping, and they probably know that and have planned ahead more this time.

Best case scenario, the single peaks in late October with a second single released around the same time.

Okay, let's see the time btw album & single on both Katy and Gaga:

Gaga's last release:

BTW: Feb 11th

BTW: May 23th

Gap: 101 days

Katy's last release:

CG: May 7th

TD: Aug 24th

Gap: 78 days

... and now their recent releases:

ARTPOP:

APPLAUSE: Aug 19th

ARTPOP: Nov 11th

Gap: 84 days

Prism:(Giving the fact that we only know the album date, I'll assuame that they may plan to make 'similar release again *it's only prediction)

Prism: Oct 22

Gap(btw TD release) was 78 days =>

=> 1st single =//= Aug 5th

if they want to release it before the VMA's that seems the most reasonable date but if they drop ala POF release than there will be probably VMA perfomance followed by release on Monday which leads us to => Aug 29th

Eigter way she wong be releasing in the same week as Gaga so guys don't worry no one of them will overshadows the others comeback, they both could co-exist  and have successful eras at the same time. The only real factor here that it's is the music material from both, because the music will define the success of the song and I believe that Katy wont take the BTW kind of expirimential road even if she said that this will be dark album, I'm sure that here songs still will be made for top 40. the question here is could Gaga bring the sound of 2013 (that she promised ARTPOP is influeced of) and made it appealing to the GP...wil see in about 20 days.  :whitney:

It's much more fun to have hizophrenia... u never get lonely

Does anyone else find it troubling that Robin's Dr. Luke/Cirkut-produced follow-up to the biggest single of the year is still not in the iTunes top 100? :wtf:

I'm not too concerned yet because Blurred Lines is still so huge.  Also, many people probably decided to pre-order the album, which includes an automatic download of the song.  These pre-orders aren't represented on the single chart, though.

It better become a hit, though.  Blurred Lines is terrible compared to this song.

I will be really disappointed if Applause doesn't get #1 at all. Just getting it for one week is fine with me, but I follow charts a lot and I would be lying if I said I would be satisfied with #2.
