Japan now has 100,000 centnarians (people aged 100 or older) from just 153 when it began tracking it in 1960s

 

Japan has one of the highest life expectancies in the world but also one of the most aged. Currently some 1/3 of the population (about 40M people) are receiving some sort of pension benefit which is currently a strain to fianance

What is it about Japan that makes people live so long? Is it their genetics or diet?

Its believed their traditional diet is very healthy for cardiovascular health and also in pockets of the country with exeptionally high rates of longevity there are cultural norms of close family bonds and close ties of friendship which some say (but difficult to scientifically quantify) also promotes long life

 

Im not sure if theres much if any evidence that one race has a genetic advantage over another for longevity or not.
