ARTPOP release should’ve been pushed back

Afawk she went through like 3 concepts from 2011 to 2013 (decay of the blonde superstar, Disney princess in a rave then art in front of pop culture), she had pressure on her to “just make fun dance music and look pretty” which is probably why the early demos all have heavily auto tuned and girlie vocals, alongside her trying to dress “prettier” and it was delayed twice (which we can trace from posts on LM.com and an interview Bobby did a few years back) from roughly Oct/Nov 2012 to April 2013 to November 2013.

Interscope were definitely pushing for it to come out in 2012 because her popularity was still fairly hot (MTN was her lowest charting single at that point but it was still a top40 hit which is astounding for a 5th single 6 months after an album release—even by 2011 standards) , that’s why she had a treatment for a MANiCURE video as the lead single in as early as July 2012 and they announced PARTYNAUSEOUS too because after a meeting with the label she basically said there was no chance the album would be finished for a release in 2012. It was supposed to come out just after the BTWB finished but then it got cancelled so they pushed it back.

Conceptually, she was wanting to go with the “decay of the blonde popstar” theme as early as mid 2011 and as late as mid 2012, because we know from TLATL documentary she had Princess Die mostly written by the time she recorded The Lady is a Tramp (which happened during late TEOG/early Y&I era) and she mentioned it on tour as late as the early European leg of the BTWB. Interscope probably pushed for a more fun theme, so the “Disney Princess in a Rave” concept happened, but probably due to licensing she couldn’t use Disney imagery or inspiration like she wanted else they’d get sued—because no way Disney was gonna let a “stoner Princess” be associated with their brand.

The art in front of pop culture theme seemed to happen when she was recovering in 2013. She probably wanted to go toward a more sophisticated concept now her year long high had died down.

I don't know if she changed that much or changed the concept a lot - but then she's at the wrong record company. The fans love ARTPOP, that means they love the record company's version, not LG's version? I don't know how to think about it.

I'm glad that a third party like Disney has nothing to do with Lady Gaga, she should do her own thing. PARTYNAUSEOUS would have been the perfect first single. 

I wonder how PARTYNAUSEOUS would have made in the charts, this is real ARTPOP, progressive, I love that she raps in a rave track! The song is just so good.

I agree, perhaps pushing it back to January as you said could’ve avoided the whole Katy Perry drama and people would be missing her even more which could’ve helped her comeback to be a lot stronger

It wasn't that Disney would be involved, it was that she was using their branding and imagery and would've most likely been sued for the association.

Partynauseous was going to be on ARTPOP but his team wanted it as the lead for Kendrick's album at the time, so we know exactly what it was going to sound like. As well as that she was going to be on Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe (which he later replaced her with a different singer). 

The "techno" version and the "hip-hop" versions both leaked in demo form. The PN instrumental for ARTPOP was by Fernando Garibay and he gave it to Sia for her song Hologram.
