Alejandro / Don't Turn Around

All this time people said that Gaga was inspired by Ace of Base's Don't Turn Around.. but it's not their song.

It's Tina Turner's song

I'm not even sure that Gaga even knows that.. but the "don't turn around" / "don't call my name" similarity is closer to Tina's version than to AoB's version in my option, it's still not a similar progression though, but has the same feel and vibe.

And wanna know who actually wrote the song... Albert Hammond and Diane Warren, our lesbian queen

I always thought it was a coincidence, especially since it's for such a brief bit.

I'm sure many other songs share those similarities... Or maybe I'm just a delulu stan and it's clearly "borrowed". :huntyga:

I genuinely don’t hear any similarity:air:

I’ve just noticed that Don’t Call Tonight’s chorus is similar to this one. But this also sounds like Must’ve Been Love by Roxette in the chorus so maybe it’s that too.

I was going to say it reminds me of Don't Call Tonight lyrically and thematically. And tbh prior to the tour I always craved for an Alejandro/DCT medley.

You can also sort of sing How Bad Do You Want Me over Tina’s version too. Especially the verses.

The similarities between the two songs pretty much begin and end w/ the production + arrangement of the AOB version imo. The tropical quasi-reggae halftime feel of the production, the staccato synths, the synth melody in between the verses (which def bares a similarity to the lead synth woven through the verses), the spoken word intro lead into the chorus

That being said, DCT’s chorus definitely bares a lot of similarities to Tina’s What’s Love Got to Do With It (to the point that you can sing Tina’s chorus over the chorus instrumental of DCT)
