What was even the thought process here to begin with?

Give people room to grow/apologize/atone, whatever…

but why make him the centerpiece of this event?

Why?

There's a conspiracy theory Anna Wintour is bitter about not being in charge of Vogue anymore and that this may have been a stunt to undermine the new editor.

If you think about it, the real problem here is that they still worked with him, despite knowing about his past, there's not even a slight chance that they didn't know,  especially Anna,  because it was a BIG scandal at that time..

Actually, Anna's comment was 'no comment' :Cautious:

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

I'd believe it. Hell hath no fury like a Wintour scorned lol

But if she isn't the editor in chief anymore, why is she choosing/why does she have sway over Gala theme selection?

(apologies if this is an easy answer- I don't really follow her career)

My cynical theory (before you told me about the other one) was that they're just trying to court controversy (*& subsequently, media attention) by any means necessary, integrity be damned. Bezos, etc

lasagna

shouldn't have been the theme in the first place

we were spared from a night of 1000 chopped shiny pat mcgrath glass face attempts

Spoiler

on top of the antisemitism his designs currently are so unbelievably past their prime in my opinion. i will forever loathe his work at margiela and thats the hill im willing to die on i never got the hype for it it always felt like couture for people that didnt understand fashion

All the basic bitches turning up in his current (bastardised) brand image of t-shirt and jeans I’d actually scream till my eyes bled.

She’s at a higher position within Conde Nast now, she’s the Global Editorial Director of all of Vogue worldwide and now she also overseas Conde Nast as Artistic Director. Meaning she overseas every magazine’s decisions worldwide every month but not on a day-by-day basis like she did at Vogue, but she doesn’t have creative control as each individual Editor-in-Chief does. Instead she can veto anything that goes against the Conde Nast brand as a whole.

My theory is she either has less input now at the MET Gala since more right wing figures are involved in it now. She’s on the chair of the MET Gala but she doesn’t get all the decisions on what the exhibits will be. Sometimes the head of the Costume Institute itself puts forward themes. OR she doesn’t feel restricted now she’s not EIC at Vogue and is so much of a fashion legacy figure she can’t get backlash really — because a lot of the business investors in the fashion industry are now primarily Middle Eastern right wing families.
