That’s an extra reason why she has a home studio or works close to her home at Shangri-La now primarily. Interscope A&R also reserves the rights to choose producers and writers who their artists have to write/work with (thus splitting the master ownership between various labels, publishing between various people etc). Which is why Haus of Gaga is Gaga’s own A&R now — meaning she chooses who she works with and their lawyers decide amongst themselves how everything is legally divided. 

She probably considered it so early before she realised how everything works, because infamously, Troy kept a lot of things secret from her business wise. There relationship was described by him years ago as she does the creative and he does the business and they never intersect beyond the marketing. 

Wow great info again, this is very interesting and I did think with her wealth now would she not want to self fund recording sessions to bypass some of those things so it's great to hear that's how it works with where she does a lot of her recording now.

Is it known if any producers were put on albums by the label? It seemed that even from The Fame Monster that she was choosing who she wanted to work with but maybe that's only how I interpreted it. But with Zedd and Madeon for ARTPOP it sounded like she brought them onto the project and I'm assuming she did the same for Mark Ronson with Joanne?

Bloodpop was added to Joanne I believe, late in the recording process because of his success with Justin Bieber the year earlier with his comeback rebrand at the time. On her earlier albums based on relationships I presume Martin Kierszenbaum on The Fame since CherryTree Records’ link to Interscope, we know for a fact Akon and Colby O’Donis were also mandatory additions involved because of contracts. Interscope also pushed for and funded her RedOne sessions in 2015 it seems. 

There’s also a possibility that Garibay on TFM or DJWS on Born This Way were additions from her A&R at the time. But any future collaboration with them was of her own choosing. That’s why her production circle has gotten smaller and smaller. She used to have a lot of producers on albums (ARTPOP being the most) and now she has a select few.

I said it in my management breakdown thread which you can go look at for some more info but she essentially has three companies that have ensured her control over her career, Morningview LLC, Lil Monsters LLC and Haus of Gaga LLC. 

Morningview is for her business, marketing and wider brand reach. Lil Monsters is for her publishing rights and legal copyrights over her music. Haus of Gaga is her financial and resource management company. Interscope signs the checks and everyone else does everything else with Gaga at the centre. She’s basically got the best of both worlds, the creative independence and career control of an indie artist but the financial and commercial backing of a record label. 

Her generation of artists (Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry) are the last generation capable of being like this because contracts are now airtight, and artists don't make as much money from music like they did pre-streaming. That’s why things like makeup companies, hair companies, fashion companies and other commercial ventures exist. Music isn’t as profitable on it’s own anymore.
