I love the two scenes in the Last Supper. They are just really beautiful, really resonant. The one where Miranda accuses Andy of betraying her is just so wonderfully dramatic. And then the dinner scene where Benjy — this character that you think is kind of a whack job billionaire — delivers really the most profound speech in the movie about the future and how it’ll come for us all. Miranda’s there, making a plea for the human touch and preserving the best of human achievement. That scene is, obviously, what the movie is all about: this battle between man-made creativity and whatever is coming next; we don’t know what it is, but we’re terrified of it, and we know it’s coming for us. Tell me about shooting with that incredible tableau in the background. We scouted the actual Da Vinci Museum, and we could have shot the one scene with people talking in front of the painting. They would have been fine with that. I said, “Can we do a dinner with candlelight?” and they said, “No, absolutely not.” So, we built a set. But I got to spend a lot of time in the room with the real Last Supper and learn a lot about it. It’s amazing; you’re standing there with a 600-year-old painting that still moves you. There’s no better way to dramatize the best of human achievement than that painting. And having that painting really underscores what Miranda’s saying to Andy. She’s asking, “Are you Judas?” There’s definitely that undertone. Video games still suffers from piracy and many studios shut down, many developers are fired every month, the prices were raised to $70 per AAA and third party video game, it's still devastating. Definitely not even remotely on par with AI, given that AI could be poised to trigger mass unemployment (something that we would’ve never seen even at the height of piracy). But to the jungle comment, that basically circles back to my “two wrongs don’t make a right” comment, no? The pirated market reselling an unofficial copies of albums couldn’t even remotely approach the potential labor displacement from using AI (which was trained off of human labor which many didn’t consent to the usage of and were not compensated for). One was a headache for one industry, the other spells mass unemployment due to a machine stealing and regurgitating other people’s work. 32 minutes ago, Ladle Ghoulash said: Definitely not even remotely on par with AI, given that AI could be poised to trigger mass unemployment (something that we would’ve never seen even at the height of piracy). But to the jungle comment, that basically circles back to my “two wrongs don’t make a right” comment, no? sure yeah, it's horrible and all but first, my original post was about the "stealing art" issue, a criticism to the people who steals but don't want their property to be stolen. so second, as long as you still have a folder full of stolen songs, your crying out loud about art or jobs of people is irrelevant, because you are part of the problem imo At the end, we are the consumers, we are the employees, we are using piracy, we are using AI, so all the talks about the big picture is a nonsense to me when we will always be the problem. We talk about billionaires, but we made them. We are talking about people losing their jobs because of AI? but we are still using AI, it doesn't have to a generative one, if you are using it just for information. u feed the monster. My solution is the best, you can opt in and opt out from giving consent to AI to use your craft. Because beating this horse is not going to kill AI, especially when the entertainment industry starts to adopt this idea. I listen to music on Youtube and I always search for official uploads. If they’re not available, I search where the songs are available in so I can support the artist. And most, if not all of the music I listen to is produced by indie artists themselves that most of the time also provide free download links for mp3 or wav files. With unreleased songs (I only listen to some Gaga unreleased songs), if she’s not willing to release and make profit of it, then what’s the issue? It’s not like she’ll go bankrupt just because I played a 16 year old upload on Youtube. As for stems, I don’t think anyone uses them to profit off of them or anything like that? I always check and appreciate the production and all of the tracks, then delete the zip because, honestly, it’s a waste of space unless for archiving purposes. I have a USB drive full of stems of songs I like provided by the artists, so yeah I don’t know what to tell you?? I have all of Gaga’s albums in CD format, some others in vinyl… so does this really count as stealing? Obviously I don’t own the tracks rights by just owning the CDs, I know that. I have never pirated a movie, nor a show or anything like that. I’ve always been scared of doing it. If it’s not available on streaming platforms, I can buy it in DVD format because I have my own money. If I can’t even find it like that, it’s not worth the time lmfao. Two wrongs don’t make a right. What these companies are doing is disgusting, and in this case, independent artists and minorities are the ones being most affected, not mainstream media that has made millions or even more. Obviously it’s better not to be a hypocrite, but if moral perfection were required to comment on or try to change anything, no one would be able to do any good at all because no one is entirely ethical.
