I agree with this. My roommates say that the song is too preachy and in your face, which they are not wrong, but come pride month, everyone be singing the entire song! Even the racial lyrics! :holdmyhand:

It is definitely the most deliberately made pro-queer song. While others hide behind it, it is the biggest pop song of all time to intentionally announce its gayness and not shy away from the fact/distort the fact that that is exactly what it is about.

Where songs like I’m Coming Out and Express Yourself and We Are Family could have vague straight meanings and the gay meaning is under-coded, Born This Way is the only big mega pop song to reverse this. It’s obviously pro-queer but it could also be about other straight things if you wanted to interpret it that way. It’s a gay, straight-inclusive pop hit.

It’s the only real Queer Anthem tbh because everything else is so vague.

Still the first and only song to use the word Transgender on the radio.

Finally BTW getting the recognition it DESERVES. :classy:

It used to irk me so much that it would always end up at #5 or #6 on the gay anthem list. I get there has been other songs before and it's not the first of it's kind but what makes Born this Way BORN THIS WAY is that it does NOT beat around the bush.

It's not about just loving yourself and self-acceptance.. It's about radically and unapologetically claiming your spot on earth and shouting out "I DESERVE to be here and this is who the F*CK I am".

It is the essential unabashed anthem that refuses to hide behind symbolism. I've always felt it sounds at the same time unmistakably her but also oddly something she hasn't done with most of her other songs. It's simple yet complex, with both cacophony and harmony.
