The Red Cross said it was “outraged by the devastating death and destruction” in densely populated areas across Lebanon as Israel launched a massive wave of attacks on Wednesday.

Heavy explosive weapons struck bustling neighbourhoods, including in Beirut, without effective advance warnings, the International Committee of the Red Cross said.

Lebanon’s Civil Defence said at least 254 people were killed and 1,165 others were wounded in the attacks on Wednesday.

The United Nations says 1.1 million Lebanese have been displaced since early March. X

Meanwhile, Trump is sending his goons to NATO to threaten Greenland again and threaten a US withdrawal.

His spineless vice president, who is meant to be in charge of brokering a lasting peace with Iran, has already backed down from including Lebanon in the ceasefire deal.

Oh, and three journalists were specifically targeted by Israeli drone strikes.

Anyway, in the coming months when migrants and refugees flood into Europe, I hope Europeans remember it was Israel and the US that sent them there.

This part. Let's see if the racists in Europe will actually have the cognitive ability to understand this.

I had a cute little chat with Gemini about what the solution to this even really is. It says, basically, Israel's current existence is incongruent with a peaceful future :rip:

What it would take is a series of unlikely events.

First: Democrats overwhelmingly win in 2026 and 2028 and somehow the voters' disillusionment with Israel combined with an influx of progressive primary challengers winning magically overrides AIPAC and other corporate donors.

Second: The new Democratic president join forces with a skeptical but willing EU to craft an enormous messaging campaign directly to the Israeli people.

Third: The messaging is clear: "all aid, military or otherwise, is now conditional". Aid is revoked until Israel backs out of all current conflicts.

Fourth: Predictably, the far-right will spin this as "the world is abandoning us, we are victims" but this propaganda meets mixed reactions. Israel has already recently seen hundreds of thousands of people protesting, just a few years ago the country was brought to a standstill. The nation is small enough that a general strike isn't infeasible, especially when defensive and economic systems begin crumbling without foreign aid and the government becomes detrimentally unpopular.

Fifth: New emergency elections are held in Israel, practically the entire government is overturned and replaced with moderate leaders driven by logic rather than theology and bloodlust.

Sixth: The new government hands Netanyahu and his goons over to the ICC/UN to be held accountable for crimes against humanity as a show of good will. Aid and defensive support returns to Israel as a result.

Seventh: Israel basically spends decades paying reparations to its victims with help from willing international parties. The wind is taken out of the sails of anti-Israel/anti-West extremists and the long and fragile road of forgiveness and cooperation begins for Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, Iran, and any other nation involved.

So yeah, none of that is happening 'cause that first thing wouldn't happen :yennefer: the Democratic party is also owned by Israel so there really is no institutional opposition to Israel in the US. Just a sh*t ton of public outrage and disapproval which is less important than the millions and millions of dollars AIPAC uses to prop up pro-Israel candidates.

The only other option for peace is for Israel to just flat out be destroyed and that's not really peace, it's just a different kind of carnage.

Fun stuff! It's lose-lose no matter what.

I don’t even know how to express myself without crossing certain boundaries. I can’t do anything but pray for the innocent to a god I don’t believe in.

Why the hell would you hit residential districts in central Beirut? Will we ever see those responsible tried for their war crimes?

Is there some reason my LG7 isn't here? Has she died or something?

Can't even begin to describe the levels of devastation I've been feeling since yesterday

I used to live like 3 minutes away from one of the streets they hit, used to study 2 minutes away from another, have friends who live there. It's just... what does one even say at this point?

The current cognitive dissonance is that "politicians should stop focusing on international issues" whenever politicians talk about Iran/Israel/Cuba/Africa etc

I’m so over seeing the news of innocent people dying in wars that they didn’t start and have no control over. These evil people need to be purged.

Crazy how Israel was able to get away with all these war crimes. (Along with the USA) :saladga:

We know. Most of us won't ever forget/forgive Israeli/American war crimes...

I'm so, so sorry. Dare I ask if your friends made it out okay? Please talk to family, friends, anyone willing to listen. Don't try and push the tears away, they're your body's way of coping from such a tremendous shock. Hugging you and sending love from Belgium.
