Spotify removes streams on the 1st of every month. Their song was released less than 2 weeks ago so -10.9M is  impressive

Nah that has to be some kind of mistake. If not, then this furthers my theory that different companies directly like to manipulate chart positions.

Honestly half the charts are a fraud. Thats why nothing feels like a hit anymore and people don’t come together over music.

not really, it's more like we transitioned into a content-led culture and we have too many things at the same time, catered to a million different niches and tastes led by a million different versions of the same algorithms. we sanctified customization, which is a form of extreme capitalist individualization. for a song to be a true global hit nowadays is very difficult, almost impossible, for this reason.

Thank you. The idea that the charts are largely fraudulent is massive cope from people who don’t like seeing artists they’re not fans of do well. People simply engage with pop culture differently than they used to. It isn’t widespread fraud or chart manipulation, it’s that monoculture doesn’t really exist anymore and thus success is primarily led by fan communities.
