jimmytimestep 2,811
today is such a blessing of insane music when's the last time we had three masterpieces all drop on the same day (Robyn, Slayyyter, Raye) and for what it’s worth, Raye takes it for me. The album hit an emotional chord for me that needed ringing. Edited March 27 by jimmytimestep

monstertoronto 11,043
After so many people shouted out Life Boat I listened to it and it sounds more like the soundtrack to an inspirational montage segment at the Oscars than an actual song.

Mirrion Rizzons 12,322
It’s objectively a good album but she does hoot and holler a bit too much for my liking I will overcome is such a great opener, that’s the only one I have added except click clack and WIMH
StrawberryBlond 15,252
I'm honestly surprised that it's getting so many rave reviews from critics and GGD. She has talent, no question, but I feel she's massively overrated. I like her voice and love her passion for music and drive to succeed but her actual musical output just isn't as good overall as her vocal prowess and ambition. I thought just 5 songs on this 70 minute long album were actually above average (I Will Overcome, Click Clack Symphony, I Know You're Hurting, Nightingale Lane, Where Is My Husband) and Click Clack Symphony took a few days to grow on me at that. It seems she released all the good songs as singles and mostly everything else is just filler. Shame as it got off to an outstanding start with that dramatic intro and then I Will Overcome, the best song on the album. But it all went downhill from there with just an occasional burst of brilliance. I think it could come down to a cultural thing - even though I'm British, Scottish music culture looks at the English music scene a bit differently and the culture of the London music scene specifically is very different. That city alone has a style all of its own and its present all over this album and it's a style that's very hit or miss for me. It's heard on her strong accent on words like "dancefloor" and in tracks like Life Boat, which is a style that I find so outdated and bland but nonetheless really persists among the London music scene. And the overexuberant big band songs like Beware The London Loverboy and I Hate The Way I Look Today are just far too annoying and over the score. It all amounts to a very pretentious and self-indulgent album that seems to think it's saying more than it actually is. I especially don't understand the absurdity of final track, Fin. Just basically her annoyingly singing that if the album didn't fill you with joy then to listen to it all over again (I know it's a joke but that's a big eye-rolling statement that only invites the phrase "not bloody likely!") and then she proceeds to say the entire roll call of people to thank, which takes over 6 minutes. Don't know who green lit this terrible idea and it's totally pointless as most people won't listen to the whole album from beginning to end over and over. It's going to be interesting to see how many customers are actually going to be impressed with this as the album as whole is quiet different from the singles and hardly stuff that's radio friendly or even just playing in your house friendly. So talented and her story of how she blossomed in the industry is inspiring, but she needs to chill out her music a bit and stop trying so hard. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk! RaveMonster 460
It really shows when talented people make the music they want to make and are well educated about their references, and this is a perfect example of it. I’m happy she’s getting her flowers because she deserves it. This album showcases who she is and her craft is incredible. She keeps proving everyone at her old label that they were wrong. 1

I think the observations you’ve made here are astute, but i have to disagree with you. Very, very few artists worldwide these days are given this kind of creative freedom; and she swings with everything she’s got here which I think deserves applause. The proceedings have a sense of big, open-hearted, sentimental optimism…which I think diffuses what could otherwise play as pretentious. And honestly, I think it’s great that it’s divisive. Something this bold should be! 3
