Iran strikes world's largest natural gas facility, energy prices soar

Oil prices soared 10 percent Thursday after Qatar reported "extensive" damage to the world's largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility following Iranian strikes, sparking fears for global energy supplies.

The price of European gas also jumped 35 percent after Tehran carried out attacks on Qatar's huge Ras Laffan LNG facility in retaliation for an Israeli strike Wednesday on Iran's South Pars gas field.

US President Donald Trump -- whose country started the war alongside Israel with their joint attack on Iran on February 28 -- said Washington did not know about the strike on South Pars, part of the world's largest natural gas reservoir.

But he warned the United States would "blow up" the Iranian gas field itself if Tehran did not stop attacking Qatar.

Qatar is one of the world's top liquefied natural gas producers, alongside the United States, Australia and Russia, and its Ras Laffan facility is the world's largest LNG hub.

But Natural Gas has been affected even worse by this and and I worry the most about the lost fertilizer going into markets. We got more oil stock piles than we do food (also food spoils, oil does not)

I live right next to the oil fields in Saudi, so its real scary! Yesterday my whole city felt the bombs, and it fell next to people.

To be clear, Iran did this in retaliation to Israel attacking their gas field. So many outlets are burying that detail in the body where the big headline is “IRAN ATTACKS.” 

Israel does not want the US to take the off-ramp, they want to escalate this war, and they do not care who it hurts. But somehow I can still see an outcome where the US is economically ruined and both parties are still bending over backwards to send billions to Israel. They have thoroughly bought US politicians as we’ve seen with the Illinois primary results. AIPAC easily creates new donation entities with “progressive” sounding names.

yeah he made a long post saying Israel attacked Iran's oil field unprompted without U.S. knowledge (the attack prompted Iran's attack in Qatar, for context) and now lots of reports are saying people in Washington are saying they're bracing for a huge break between Bibi and Trump. Who knows if it will happen, but it's telling that Trump would so brazenly blame Israel without assuming any U.S. responsibility or reinforce any allyship.
