This is the kinda thing that’s okay to THINK and BELIEVE, but not really okay to say out loud when you’re a famous man

I mean…why not, tho? Because people will interpret it in bad faith and call you a misogynist?

He's right and wrong.

His attitude to the idea of making songs about personal topics at times feels a bit like classic toxic masculinity of bottling it all up and repressing it.

But he's right that Taylor Swift's autobiographical writing at times is basic as ****.

She has really high highs with it and really low lows.

Its a fine line between just narrating your life via song and conveying the emotion of the moment in a way that is both personal and relatable.

her being so proud about these basic ass lyrics tells you everything you need to know about her level of songwritting. Yes, it is boring.

There's an interesting couple degrees of connection between Jack White and Taylor. She attended the 2024 wedding of his ex-wife, Karen Elson, who Jack abused during their marriage in the early 2010s. She had to get a restraining order against him. It was very messy at the time.

Did I miss something or did he not even shade her like that?? He said it's boring *for him* to do it.

that's quite interesting to hear, i'd like to see gaga's perspective on this since she's an artist who regularly releases music that's autobiographical about her struggles, relationships, physical pain and trauma despite being a very private person...

i wonder what she feels listening/singing Y&I or music from Joanne (or Speechless) in regards to her family... and since she quite boldly proclaimed her love for michael with BOG, how will she feel about it 10 years from now?

She’s said before it’s hard to sing songs like Dope.

Yeah I think people will read bad faith into it but he’s recognizing what’s a hallmark of her songwriting but saying it’s not his way of doing it while being asked how personal his stuff is. He just put her on the range of personal music, is all

Thanks for pointing that out! You're probably right. The article's author probably misinterpreted--whether on accident or intentionally--what he said, which he'll probably be upset about, as he has been rightly upset about things like this before.

I regret posting what I did, mostly because I didn't deserve to feel badly about myself more than usual today.

Folklore’s pretty overrated, tbh. IMO, not even the best pop chamber folk record that came out that year

I mean his songs are not even that good. :huntyga:

and by famous, maybe in the West but here in Asia, he is pretty much nonexistent.

Hate to defend her but it's really boring to write vague and generic songs that are not inspired by anything. Personal experience makes you think very specific stuff that will be shown in the lyrics, and it's going to be way more relatable to people. When well-written, this type of songs makes you realize all these things you've been feeling that you never managed to put words on. That's the job of an artist.
