Kunal Nayyar‘s recent interview with The i Paper is currently going viral on X thanks to “The Big Bang Theory” actor’s revelation that he frequently goes on GoFundMe to anonymously donate to campaigns that provide money towards medical bills for families. Fortune magazine reported earlier this year that Nayyar’s reported net worth is $45 million.

“Money has given me greater freedom and the greatest gift is the ability to give back, to change people’s lives,” Nayyar said in December. “We also support animal charities because we love dogs. But what I really love to do is go on GoFundMe at night and just pay random families’ medical bills. That’s my masked vigilante thing! So, no, money doesn’t feel like a burden. It feels like a grace from the universe.”

Nayyar starred as Raj Koothrappali on all 12 seasons of “The Big Bang Theory,” the hugely popular CBS sitcom that ran from 2007 to 2019. The cast was earning a reported $1 million per episode at the height of the show’s success. Forbes even ranked Nayyar as the world’s third-highest-paid TV actor in both 2015 and 2018 with annual earnings of $20m and $23.5m, respectively. The actor told The i Paper that wealth does not “weigh heavy” on him and he’s happy to donate to charitable causes.

That's a really noble thing to do.

I wonder if this is why the wealthiest people in the world are investing in AI because some of them believe it will be the means to solve ALL of mankind's problems.

Expecting altruism from the wealthy? Hilarious :rip:

They're investigating in AI because they think it'll be the next thing to inflate their already disgustingly bloated wallets.

Whimsical bitch

It was a pretty popular show. I think Kaley Cuoco was the highest paid actress at one point. It pays to be on a very successful sitcom.

Nope. The state should take this money and use it to ensure the basic needs of all its people are met (food, shelter, healthcare). We shouldn't rely on the generosity of people who have been allowed by the state to accrue obscene amounts of wealth.

With that being said, I mean no critique to him; good that he's doing the right thing with his money.

Well obviously. But you know what I meant

Also I don't believe you can allow the state to just take people's money and distribute it to those in need. It's so much more complex than that. I mean which government or state in the world do you trust to take that much money and then distribute it fairly and equitably? What the world needs is a maximum income to prevent anyone from becoming that wealthy in the first place. But I guess no matter what system is in place.. disgusting greedy humans will find a way to exploit it anyway. So we're kinda f.ucked no matter what

I didn’t actually know for sure how you meant it, some people are wild enough to believe in that so I didn’t know. Happy to hear you don’t though :D

It’s much more complex, I agree, but it is nevertheless the basic headline. The way you’d probably implement that maximum income/wealth is through taxation. I trust a democratically elected body more with distributing money than random individuals who have no accountability to the broader public. As you say, it’s not without its flaws, but I certainly think it’s better.

No - the billionaire ruling Epstein class had always exploited our labor and our bodies. Now they aim to exploit our thoughts, our art, our “data” in order to create and teach AI systems to replace our usefulness to them.

They are all supremacists who barely consider us worthy of moral consideration. They don’t care about liberating us.
