It's far from "a Hispanic/Latino issue", it's an American issue and as an American celebrity she has every right and obligation to speak out  

This cannot be another case of "just let the affected people speak up and the rest of us will clap in the background" like much of BLM was.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a little placated by the "ice out" pin and that she's speaking so casually about it when prompted to. I'd still like her to do more but that's honestly just me putting what is potentially too much value in her actions and words.

I just don't like the "it's not her problem, she's white" narrative that could be spun from posts like this 'cause she's an American and it absolutely is her problem, same as it is all of our problem.

There are a lot of topics where white perspectives, outside of allyship, is really unnecessary. 

ICE's actions and the Trump administration's corruption and abuse of the American people is absolutely not one of those topics.

So to the people upset she didn’t make an empty platitude on stage - as if we don’t already know her position - in a room full of celebrities who also made empty platitudes - what are y'all doing to combat the overreach of ICE as an authoritarian arm ? It’s nice to want a celebrity to make a post but it’s up to citizens to make a difference - not just type away and yell at a celebrity for not doing the work that WE should be doing.

I don't understand why you're being so hard on her when she HAS been outspoken.

I have a theory that she has not been as outspoken as we expect because she does not want her concerts in the US to suddenly be targeted by ICE or protestors who would show up to harm her fans.

Glad she brought up the ICE situation here as she missed the chance in her speech. Though I'm sure if she'd won AOTY, she would've said something. But I'm realising now that maybe it was her plan to only mention it under that circumstance and that referencing it in a speech was for a POC to do, she didn't want to step on any toes and be seen as performative and trying to attach herself to a situation that doesn't affect her. Class act as always.
