mamo 19,729 Posted yesterday at 05:46 PM Share Posted yesterday at 05:46 PM (edited) Gaga has been nominated for: International Artist of the Year International Song of the Year (DWAS) I believe this is the first time they’ve nominated her since 2014 even though they’re pretty irrelevant now bloop! whoresup 3,266 Posted yesterday at 05:48 PM Share Posted yesterday at 05:48 PM Yeah they are fairly irrelevant now tbh. Nominating DWAS which was released in 2024 but not Abracadabra is a choice. 12 1

27monster27 14,676 Posted yesterday at 05:50 PM Share Posted yesterday at 05:50 PM Ah lucky you got this thread! Yes, this is the first time that Lady Gaga has been nominated for the Brits in 12 years. She had three groundbreaking wins in 2010, she was nominated but lost to Rihanna in 2012, and she was nominated but lost to Lorde in 2014. I'm still not over how she was snubbed in 2020. he/him/his 1

For one they still promote and love British hip-hop, R&B and Grime unlike pretty much any major award show and It’s a privilege to win Artist of The Year for example. People only see it as irrelevant because it focuses specifically on British acts and barely cares about International ones (with the exception of Kylie I’d say). Plus Gaga hasn’t had a strong presence in the UK outside of touring since her peak so this is still huge. Also because DWAS was and is still huge in the UK especially on radio which is still big in the UK. Abracadabra had it’s moments but it didn’t even scratch DWAS over here Edited yesterday at 06:00 PM by gagzus
gagzus 16,853 Posted yesterday at 05:56 PM Share Posted yesterday at 05:56 PM She’s still got a chance to win though since it’s not long since Mayhem was over here. They tend to award the Int award to an artist who is currently or has recently toured in the UK & Europe more

Disease peaked at #7, and a top 10 peak for the song was not common in 2024. Abracadabra was top 3 and almost achieved being her first song since 2010 to spend more than nine weeks in the top 10. The Dead Dance peaked at #13 and had a pretty decent longevity there. Die With a Smile of course was huge too. he/him/his 1

Precisely, her grip on the UK died for a little bit over here when she sort of started focusing on being more American sounding in her music choices. She had a resurgences with ASIB showing off her vocals and acting ability but it was with Rain on Me and Chromatica in general that brought her back into the charts properly because she moved more back into a European style of dance music sound, plus having Ariana who is beloved in the UK as your collaborator helps. I think it’s pretty much culturally accepted that Gaga and Ari made a song the defines the pandemic in the UK with Rain on Me, it was literally EVERYWHERE possible when it came out and that’s when people started being interested in her again (at least I think)

Rain On Me was very big in the UK. It charted for nine weeks in the top 4 and only fell because of the three week decline chart rule. he/him/his

I remember radio stations calling it THE song of the pandemic that was getting us through. She deserved an award for it at the Brits Edited yesterday at 06:15 PM by gagzus
StrawberryBlond 15,080
I'm so glad they didn't snub her like they usually do. It's not unusual for them to forget about certain international acts after their peak but there really was no excuse not to nominate her all these years. No nominations for the entire ASIB era is shocking considering how massive that album was in the UK. It's like they just didn't want or like her anymore when she started underperforming. To see her welcomed back with 2 nominations is a huge deal. DWAS was just that popular here, they couldn't snub it. It seems to be fans think that Abracadabra was bigger than it actually was, it's still mostly a song really only known to fans but DWAS is widely known, so of course the Brits opted for the bigger one. Not to be a downer but just for fair perspective... that rule is probably part of the reason it reached #4 in the first place or stayed there as long as it did In the US and Canada the top 10 barely turns over now a days and as a result fewer songs manage to make it in cuz the ones that do stay there so long

I wish the US and other charts would adopt some of the UK chart rules to make things more interesting (and fair) again. he/him/his
