Fully the worst song on the album. A watered down BLACKPINK track over a stock 90s house sample pack from GarageBand only saved by 30-45 seconds of Gaga rapping.

And somehow is better than half of the album lol

- She’s lucky she chose the songs she did bc not all the demos are gold; what she chose are truly the only good ones (even if I like others, too)

- Bad Romance is as good as it’s praised to be; truly a gamechanger that gets undersold now bc it’s been 15 years of serve we’re almost numb

- No other singles. Those three and that’s it. It was a perfect era in that way.

- her relationship to the fashion world was never better (in terms of theory, analysis, embeddedness, etc.); she felt like a true fashion artist whose aesthetic was refined but still evolving, not just a celeb who had great style

- SHICD is her best RnB song period.

- part of its massive success is how it straddled euro, disco, and RnB but the last genre gets very under-mentioned and has really not been picked up in a real way since. My theory is bc she’s so Gaga now and in her own echelon, she isn’t really going around studios like she was in the days of being a songwriter where 2000s urban RnB pop was the rage where she cut her songwriting teeth; that said it’s a vital part of her sound especially early on (Lovegame’s beat being another example), her secret sauce, and I wish it would come back

- besides Beyonce self titled, it is the most successful music marketing effort *that translated to sales and hits* over the last 20 years and put a target on her back; brat was everywhere but it’s not like it was as big a commercial performer, for instance.

- dark hair cover is the better one

In no way, shape, or form. Boring melody, no emotional stakes, glorified filler at best. Every other song on the album mops the floor with it with ease.

Couldn’t agree more re: the demos. They’re cute but they all feel like songs she workshopped for other artists. None of them feel like they have the distinctive Gaga flair that TFM helped to establish/solidify.

My unpopular opinion isn’t really to do with the album itself, but fans need to LET IT GO with this EP when’s she’s topped it creatively 3x over already.

People only still hold it to high esteem because of it’s sales, back in the day I remember how much this fanbase HATED how “noisy” the songs were and how everyone only loved Monster and Telephone because they sounded the most like The Fame.

I think Alejandro is probably the best song on the EP

that dark hair colour wig is DRY and ugly as hell, the Alejandro cover should’ve been the alt one

I like how dry it is :) it feels tragic :laughga: that and her early aesthetic was v much shaped by cheap, hand me down glam and I think the crunchy wig works to communicate that

The concept of it being an EP when it was both nominated and won in album categories at the Grammys independent of TF

The Fame Monster being an EP re-release of The Fame played a role in why people thought she was a has-been for years, and it also played a role in the overexposure that would come about in late 2011.

100% on the money about it being tied to TF making people think she was a has-been because it gave people grounds to act like she only had one or two successful eras, when TF and TFM both stand on their own aesthetically and commercially.

1. I kind of prefer the demo of BR over the album version because it's less noisy, but at the same time the di-di-di-di is iconic.

Ughhhhhh the demo of bad romance really takes me back. What a magical time. The redone vocals are so heavenly and nostalgic

I remember downloading it on my iPod when it leaked and showing it to my friends in school and them being like “WTF is this” :ladyhaha: Little did they know…

Honestly overall I wish she would have left the Album/EP cook a liiiiitle bit longer, added some songs and created an actual fears concept visual album, but hey :p she is the artist and I'm the public.

Also DITD not being a single and getting an insane film noir video is a CRIME!

I barely see Monster mentioned in this thread so I guess this is unpopular: Monster is one of the biggest skips in her discography to me  :glamourpuss:

The production is bland compared to the rest of the album, the metaphor has been done a thousand times and the stuttery hooks feel forced and jarring (especially the "monster-er-er-er").

Completely agree from a creative standpoint, because there are definitely a few raw edges in there. But commercially speaking they definitely made the right move by starting the new era so quickly after The Fame.

Gaga once said that the label had Boys Boys Boys lined up as the next single, but she herself pushed for Bad Romance to launch the new era. In hindsight I'm curious to know if she really wanted that or if she felt pressured to capitalize on the momentum she had.
