Honestly, I loved HML, Scheisse, Government Hooker, and as a Latino, I loved Americano; I thought it was hilarious 😂 My grandma and I would sing it like two pelicans, AAAA AMERICANO 😂 But Hair... I don't mean this in a hateful way, but it always seemed childish to me, like it was from a kids' show. It's a Bop. Yeah, ofc Scheisse’s a bop, but it’s also a song that features her speaking in German gibberish after saying “I don’t speak German, but I can if you’d like” lmao. Gaga’s body of work is broadly camp/cheesy so when I say that I’m not saying it’s bad (Scheisse is one of my favorite Gaga songs), I’m just pointing out that I think fans selectively recognize those qualities to justify not liking songs they don’t like when it’s something that’s true about a lot of her music and her artistic brand more broadly (which I think is purposeful and something a lot of her fans basically just don’t get). The sentiment behind the song is important, but I wish she would rewrite the lyrics. I'm not just talking about the potentially offensive lines ("Chola or Orient-made"), but the laziness of some of the rhymes and awkwardness of the lyrics. Gay, straight, bi, and lesbian are all used as adjectives, and then they're paired with "transgender life" which is an awkward phrasing that's forced in for the off-rhyme of "bi" and "life". And "You're Lebanese, you're Orient" makes no sense because one is an adjective, one is a noun, and how can a person be "Orient"? And yeah, I know someone revised some of the lyrics, and she sang that version at my Jazz & Piano show, but she has the ability to do a proper rewrite.
