You have an excuse to break that diet and eat some cake (if you have) Yeah you heard that right, Austrian diva Marie Antoinette is turning 270 years old today, Happy Birthday!

She served as the last queen of France from May 10, 1774, to September 21, 1792

It's very anachronistic, but it's fantastic. Less of a biopic and more of an inspired narrative. The art direction, casting, fashion, soundtrack, everything are so good.

Same, it’s in my top 5 favorite films of all time. I’m seeing Sofia Coppola next week and am slightly freaking out.

It is adapted from Antonia Fraser’s biography but only deals with a specific portion of MA’s life. The intention was to make it relevant to a modern audience and avoid the usual stuffy dimension of historical films. Definitely not to be approached as a classic biopic. It angered a lot of people back in the day, especially French critics, but it’s now regarded as one of the most influential historical films in recent memory.
